Job Summary
Atrium Health is seeking a highly skilled Child Life Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our pediatric care team, you will provide essential support and guidance to families and children facing challenging experiences, particularly those related to healthcare and hospitalization.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement short and long-term goals to support the psychosocial and developmental needs of pediatric patients.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to provide education and formulate plans of care that prioritize family-centered care.
- Design and implement special activities and events to enhance the patient and family experience.
- Serve as a patient and family advocate, promoting their needs and preferences throughout the care process.
- Contribute to in-service education and training programs to enhance the skills of healthcare professionals.
- Supervise and mentor Child Life Assistants and volunteers to ensure high-quality support for patients and families.
- Participate in the onboarding and evaluation of new team members and interns to ensure a seamless transition.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Human Growth and Development, Education, Psychology, or a related field.
- Experience in a Child Life Program in a healthcare setting, with completion of a student placement or internship.
- Current Child Life Certification.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to adapt to diverse patient and family needs.
- Strong organizational and time management skills to prioritize multiple responsibilities.
Physical Requirements
This role requires the ability to walk, stand, sit, lift, stoop, bend, reach, push, and pull, with the capacity to lift and support up to 51 pounds of weight in handling patients, medical equipment, and supplies.
