Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Exceptional Children Coordinating Teacher to join our team at Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools. The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting Exceptional Children programming in schools and outside agencies, coordinating instructional programs, and ensuring compliance with state and federal guidelines.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support the development of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and coordinate IEP meetings as needed
  • Coordinate the scheduling of Exceptional Children staff and resources
  • Collaborate with compliance facilitators to ensure accurate and complete paperwork
  • Develop and implement improvement plans at schools, as assigned
  • Facilitate the implementation of progress monitoring in writing instructional plans
  • Model evidence-based instructional strategies for Specially Designed Instruction
  • Provide co-teaching support to Exceptional Children and general education teachers
  • Develop and provide professional development related to instruction and accountability
  • Support beginning teachers and/or teachers new to the district
  • Review and evaluate requests for district support and outside representation
  • Review behavior packets to determine placement or service delivery needs
  • Monitor the completion of assigned tasks in preparation for headcount
  • Assist in the collection, analysis, and interpretation of data needed for planning student supports, reporting, determining service delivery, making student programming decisions, and providing professional development
  • Responsible for updating all datapoints in dashboards and systems
  • Participate in the development of the department's Continuous Improvement Performance Plan (CIPP)
  • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work
  • Act as a liaison between school and Exceptional Children department
  • Represent the district/LEA, as necessary
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree required
  • At least three years teaching experience required
  • Valid NC Teaching Certification in Special Education required
  • Master's degree in Special Education preferred
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience
Physical Requirements/Working Conditions
  • Work requires the occasional exertion of up to ten pounds of force
  • Work regularly requires exchange of accurate and detailed information through oral and written communication
  • Constantly operates a computer and other office business equipment
  • Ability to remain in stationary position for required meetings/work
  • Ability to move to other work locations
  • Visual acuity requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities
  • Hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels, and to receive detailed information through oral communications
  • Work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, operating standard office equipment, use of advanced technology
  • Work occasionally requires exposure to outdoor weather conditions
  • Work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g., business office, light traffic)
  • Requires the ability to deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions
  • Must be adaptable to performing under mild to high levels of stress
