Key Responsibilities

This role is situated within the Department of the Interior, specifically in the Office of the Secretary, Indian Arts and Crafts Board (IACB). At the full performance level of GS-11, the primary responsibilities of this position encompass, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Managing, monitoring, and addressing complaints regarding potential violations of the Indian Arts and Crafts Act (IACA) as outlined in the relevant regulations. This includes engaging in case development through thorough review, analysis, and research of complaints and associated evidence.
  • Soliciting additional documentation and pertinent information from diverse sources; may involve travel to conduct interviews with complainants and/or gather further evidence; assessing industry reports, financial documents, and expert opinions related to the IACA; synthesizing information and preparing various reports for case use.
  • Supporting pre-publication and editorial tasks for IACB publications, including typing and proofreading materials to ensure accuracy and adherence to the standards set by the Indian Arts and Crafts Board and the Government Printing Office.
  • Offering insights and guidance on the IACA, marketing strategies, and general intellectual property rights protections, both informally at Indian arts and crafts marketing events nationwide and formally through presentations at consumer protection seminars, industry conventions, and similar forums.
  • Assisting in the editing and creation of content for the IACB website, as well as managing and overseeing the IACB's social media channels.
  • Contributing to the Source Directory of American Indian and Alaska Native Owned and Operated Arts and Crafts Businesses, which involves promoting the program to Indian artists, businesses, Tribes, and consumers across the nation.

The Office of the Secretary has determined that the responsibilities of this position are conducive to telework, with supervisor approval.

Salary Information:
GS-9: $68,405 - $88,926 per annum
GS-11: $82,590 per annum
First-time hires to the Federal government typically start at the lower salary range of the grade level.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualification Requirements:
To qualify for this position, candidates must meet one of the following criteria:

  • GS-09
    A. Specialized Experience
    Candidates must possess at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service, or comparable experience outside of Federal service. Specialized experience includes:
    • Management and oversight of website and social media platforms.
    • Participation in the development and implementation of consumer protection programs.
    • Researching and analyzing documentation for case development.
    • Delivering informational presentations to diverse audiences.
    • Responding to information requests both in writing and orally.
    • Providing editorial and production support for publications.
  • B. Education: Possess 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education or a Master's degree (or equivalent).
  • C. Combination of Education and Specialized Experience: A combination of graduate-level education beyond the first year and relevant experience that together meets the qualification requirements.
  • GS-11
    A. Specialized Experience
    Candidates must possess at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service, or comparable experience outside of Federal service. Specialized experience includes:
