Accountant Job Description

Genesee County, Michigan is seeking a highly skilled Accountant to join our team. As an Accountant, you will be responsible for performing a variety of complex, county-wide budget, accounting and financial analysis duties consistent with Governmental Accounting Standards.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Maintain a complete set of accounting records, including financial statements, general ledgers, journal entries and subsidiary ledgers and budget reports.
  • Perform account analyses and prepare journal entries for asset, liability, revenue and expenditure accounts for assigned funds.
  • Prepare various financial or statistical reports on a regular basis, including budget statements, grant reporting, projections, payroll cost analysis, trust investments reconciliations, federal and state reports.
  • Provide fiscal and technical accounting expertise to assigned operating departments.
  • Perform special projects as directed by the Chief Financial Officer or Accounting and Budget Manager.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business Administration with a major in Accounting or Finance with a minimum of 20 semester hours in Accounting.
  • Or, Bachelor's degree -AND- two (2) years' professional experience as an accountant.
  • Or, Associate degree with 20 semester hours of Accounting -AND- five (5) years' professional experience as an Accountant.
Preferred Experience:

Governmental Accounting experience preferred.
