Job Title: Associate Director, Competitive Intelligence - Liver Disease/Fibrosis

Gilead Sciences is seeking an experienced Associate Director, Competitive Intelligence to lead Competitive Intelligence (CI) activities across a key launch product that treats primary biliary cholangitis. This role will also support additional pipeline assets and external opportunity assessment.

About the Role:

The Associate Director, Competitive Intelligence will be responsible for collecting, synthesizing, and delivering key insights and implications to our business on the competitive environment, related to marketed products, pipeline assets, and external opportunities. This role will be based in Foster City.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Gathering, summarizing, and providing objective analysis of competitive (commercial, clinical, and scientific) information to inform business decision-making
  • Leading core CI initiatives, including assessing competitive dynamics, monitoring/news updates, and maintaining market landscapes
  • Preparing Gilead to respond to key competitive threats through competitive workshops, scenario planning, etc.
  • Providing conference coverage, such as analyses of clinical data, commercial presence, and overall themes
  • Creating/updating content on competitor products, launch timings, and product profiles
  • Communicating key competitive information and potential implications to stakeholders and leadership throughout the organization
  • Supporting stakeholders in development of function-specific deliverables (ex: forecasts, market assessments, strategic brand plans)
  • Supporting external opportunities evaluations, as needed
  • Partnering with third-party agencies to support CI projects and ensuring projects remain within allocated scope and budget
  • Following pre-defined standards to ensure legal and ethical approaches to CI, protecting business interests and confidentiality
  • Participating in cross-functional team meetings to bring the Competitive perspective into decision making
Requirements:
  • Strong relationship management skills including ability to adapt communication style, content, timing, and tone to audience/stakeholder needs
  • Experience working in a highly matrixed environment with a strong commitment to work collaboratively in a fast-paced organization
  • Strong oral and written communication, including history of effective written communication (including both PowerPoint and Word/email)
  • Proven ability to present at and facilitate small- and large-group meetings (with peers as well as leadership) to achieve pre-defined objectives
  • Ability to interpret, synthesize, and identify broader implications from key data, including but not limited to clinical data and competitor promotional investment & communication activities
  • Experience with researching, developing, and delivering CI assessments from key data/information and strategic insights
  • Experience in use of online data sources and scientific/market databases (e.g., Pubmed, , TrialTrove, Evaluate Pharma, etc.)
  • Ability to work independently and proactively, using sound judgement in face of uncertainty
  • Excellent task and time management skills (specifically project planning, prioritization, objective setting, meeting management and plan execution)
  • Aptitude for learning new scientific, business, and industry concepts and developing subject matter expertise in limited timeframes
  • Team player who can fit seamlessly into diverse cross-functional settings, collaborate, and fulfill responsibilities in a timely manner
Basic Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree with 10 years' relevant experience, Master's degree with 8 years' relevant experience or PhD and 2 years' relevant experience
  • Experience in pharmaceutical industry, specifically CI, consulting, marketing, or analytics
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience assessing commercial markets
  • Experience with liver disease
  • Masters, PharmD, PhD or equivalent graduate degree, life science background
Travel Requirement:

10-20% (including international travel)

The salary range for this position is: $191, $247, Gilead considers a variety of factors when determining base compensation, including experience, qualifications, and geographic location. These considerations mean actual compensation will vary. This position may also be eligible for a discretionary annual bonus, discretionary stock-based long-term incentives (eligibility may vary based on role), paid time off, and a benefits package.
