Family Services Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Family Services Specialist to join our team at the King and Queen County Department of Social Services. As a Family Services Specialist, you will work closely with older adults and their families in a rural community, providing essential support and services to promote their well-being and independence.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct investigations of abuse, neglect, and exploitation of older adults and adults with disabilities.
- Complete biopsychosocial assessments using the Virginia Uniform Assessment Instrument.
- Coordinate services within specific areas of responsibility, including Adult Protective Services and Adult Services.
- Interview and assess customer needs, and develop and implement individualized service plans.
- Provide case management services to monitor compliance and ensure the delivery of appropriate services to clients.
- Track expenditures, prepare and submit budget estimates, and ensure payment for services.
- Complete necessary federal, state, and local planning and reporting requirements.
- Coordinate with other agencies and participate in multi-disciplinary and interagency teams providing services to customers.
- Conduct overall monitoring of programs in specific areas of responsibility.
- Serve as a resource to clients and the community in areas of expertise.
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in a Human Services field or a minimum of two years of appropriate and related experience in a Human Services area.
- Some knowledge of social work principles and practices, human behavior and motivational theory, and social, economic, and health problems.
- Skill in operating a motor vehicle and personal computer with associated software.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, and to develop and implement service plans to ensure the delivery of appropriate services to clients.
Possession of a BSW or MSW degree is desirable. Education and/or experience in Gerontology is also desirable.
