Job Summary

The Commonwealth of Virginia is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Human Services Assistant I to join our team. As a key member of our Family Services Team, you will play a vital role in providing administrative support and assisting clients in achieving their goals.

Key Responsibilities
  • Interview clients and gather information for services or benefits
  • Document files, input data, and prepare records
  • Prepare periodic, special, and other reports
  • Verify complex statistical and other reports for accuracy and completeness
  • Prepare and type financial, statistical forms, and reports, as well as case documentation
  • Prepare case files, complete inquiries, and purge cases
  • Answer telephone calls and take messages
  • Purchase clothing for children and transport clients as needed
  • Assist children with daily living activities
  • Mailing vendor invoices, surveys, and other correspondence
Requirements
  • Working knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures and systems
  • Mathematics skills sufficient to perform calculations and interpret graphs
  • Basic knowledge of human service needs and state computer programs
  • Ability to work with clients, coworkers, professionals, and the public
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple documents, write simple correspondence, and present information in one-on-one and small group settings
  • Ability to follow written and oral instructions, perform basic mathematics, and work with clients, professionals, coworkers, and the public
  • High school diploma with work experience in customer service or general clerical work involving contact with the public, or any equivalent combination of training and experience
Preferred Qualifications
  • Human services experience or human services degree
Special Requirements
  • DMV driving record check, pre-employment drug screen, and CPS and criminal history search
  • Employee must be willing to work in community emergency response capacity in the event of a natural disaster or emergency
