Key Responsibilities:

  • Conducts and ensures proficiency in electroencephalography, portable inpatient EEGs, ambulatory EEG monitoring, and EEG monitoring during specialized procedures, including Epilepsy Monitoring Units (EMUs) and Evoked Potentials, by applying appropriate electrodes to designated areas on the patient's head, verifying electrode functionality, calibrating equipment, and selecting both standard and unique electrode configurations based on the specific case being examined.
  • Prepares patients for examinations and executes procedures, collecting thorough patient histories and relevant information from patients, their records, and family members, including neurological symptoms and medications. Clearly communicates test procedures to patients and their families.
  • Implements procedures in accordance with laboratory protocols and adapts methods or modifies controls to achieve optimal recording quality. This may involve adjusting equipment settings, utilizing additional electrodes, employing extra montages, and activating procedures as necessary.
  • Identifies patient or environmental artifacts and documents, mitigates, or takes appropriate measures to monitor such artifacts.
  • Develops and standardizes neurodiagnostic tests for clinical application.
  • Conducts Intraoperative Monitoring under supervision.
  • Assists physicians in outpatient clinics with Nerve Conduction Studies and Electromyography (EMG) as required.
  • Executes Cerebral Death Evaluation studies.
  • Performs Transcranial Doppler (TCD) ultrasound of the Circle of Willis.
  • Troubleshoots equipment issues and promptly reports or repairs them as necessary.
  • Must demonstrate the knowledge and skills essential for providing age-appropriate care, understanding the principles of growth and development across the lifespan, and being able to assess and interpret data relevant to each patient's needs.

Licensure and Certification Requirements:

  • Electroencephalographic Technologist registration (R EEG T) from the American Board of Registration of Electroencephalographic and Evoked Potential Technologists (ABRET) is required within one year.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for Healthcare Providers from the American Heart Association (AHA) is required within six months unless otherwise determined by the department leader.

Educational Background:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.

Experience Needed:

  • Typically requires a minimum of two years of experience in a Neurodiagnostic Technician role.

Essential Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Strong interpersonal and patient service skills.
  • Intermediate proficiency in computer usage.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

  • Ability to operate all necessary equipment for the role.
  • Position may require travel and exposure to various road and weather conditions.
  • Must be capable of sitting, standing, walking, twisting, and lifting throughout the workday.
  • Must be able to:
  • Lift up to 50 lbs. from floor to waist.
  • Lift up to 20 lbs. overhead.
  • Carry up to 40 lbs. a reasonable distance.
  • Push/pull with 30 lbs. of force.
  • Perform a sliding transfer of 150 lbs. with assistance.
  • Work environment may involve exposure to blood, body fluids, or other hazards, necessitating the ability to work in such conditions and wear protective gear as required.
  • Exposure to a standard office environment.
