Position Overview:

The role is situated within the Behavioral Science Division at the National Center for PTSD, part of the VA Boston Healthcare System.

The incumbent will engage in scientific research and contribute to the creation and dissemination of knowledge that supports the research and educational objectives of the National Center for PTSD.

The primary aim is to enhance prevention, comprehension, and treatment of Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and other effects of traumatic stress.

Key Responsibilities:

The position focuses on two interconnected domains:

  • Development, validation, and implementation of trauma-informed assessment instruments.
  • Enhancement of patient access to care for those suffering from PTSD.
Research Duties (80% of time):
  • Generate and manage grant proposals, responding to funding requests from various sources.
  • Define research projects with clear objectives, develop study designs, and identify collaborators and resources.
  • Act as Principal Investigator or Co-Principal Investigator on grants concerning traumatic stress and PTSD.
  • Ensure compliance with all research regulatory standards.
  • Prepare and submit reports in line with local research and funding agency requirements.
  • Oversee laboratory operations and supervise research personnel, ensuring proper certification and credentialing.
  • Manage data collection and databases.
  • Conduct complex data analyses utilizing statistical software such as SPSS, R, SAS, and/or MPlus.
  • Publish findings in scientific journals and present research at professional conferences.
  • Participate in local or national research committees, including editorial boards and grant review panels.
Academic and Clinical Responsibilities (15% of time):
  • Hold a faculty position at Boston University School of Medicine, providing multidisciplinary supervision as necessary.
  • Offer clinical supervision to psychology trainees within the PTSD Clinical Team.
  • Possibly provide direct clinical care within the PTSD Clinical Team.
Additional Responsibilities (5% of time):
  • Participate in committees or task forces at various organizational levels as requested.
  • Engage actively in professional organizations at local, state, or national levels, taking on leadership roles as appropriate.
  • Attend relevant meetings in Psychology and Research Services as required.
Work Schedule:

Standard hours are Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM.

Qualifications:

Applicants must be U.S. citizens and meet specific educational and licensure requirements, including a doctoral degree in psychology from an accredited program and a current, unrestricted license to practice psychology.

All candidates must demonstrate proficiency in written and spoken English.

Participation in mandatory health programs, including vaccinations, is required for all personnel.

Physical Requirements:

Applicants should be in good health, capable of performing light to moderate physical activities, and able to work primarily in a sedentary role.
