Position Overview:

As a Senior Mechanical Engineering Lead at Daikin, you will play a pivotal role in overseeing a variety of design initiatives, encompassing both the enhancement of existing products and the development of innovative solutions. Your focus will be on ensuring cost-effectiveness, superior quality, safety compliance, and timely project execution.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Direct and manage multiple design projects, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and timelines.
  • Formulate project timelines, assemble teams, and allocate resources effectively for both existing product modifications and new product initiatives.
  • Maintain clear communication with leadership regarding project progress through regular updates and detailed reports.
  • Lead interdisciplinary teams to facilitate successful product launches, troubleshoot issues, and implement product improvements.
  • Oversee the upkeep and revision of engineering documentation, including drawings, standards, specifications, and operational guidelines.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives, applying lean methodologies and design for manufacturability principles.
  • Provide technical support in product design, leveraging your expertise to guide the team.
  • Employ engineering analytical tools to enhance product design processes.
  • Document design specifications through the preparation of bills of materials, cost assessments, technical drawings, and engineering change requests.
  • Collaborate with suppliers to improve product quality and address any issues that arise.
  • Support compliance with safety and performance certifications for all products.
  • Engage with regulatory bodies and testing organizations to ensure adherence to industry standards.
  • Mentor and develop team members, preparing them for increased responsibilities within the organization.
  • Execute additional project-related tasks as required.

Nature and Scope:

  • Act as a subject matter expert and mentor within the engineering team.
  • Lead projects from inception to completion, ensuring all quality, safety, testing, cost, and delivery benchmarks are met.

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • In-depth understanding of mechanical design engineering principles and practices.
  • Expertise in refrigeration and/or air conditioning design with a global production perspective.
  • Technical proficiency in various systems and components.
  • Experience with six sigma methodologies, failure modes analysis, experimental design, tolerance analysis, and parts standardization.
  • Familiarity with relevant industry standards and specifications.
  • Proficient in computer-aided design (CAD) and simulation software.
  • Strong capabilities in project management, organization, time management, analytical thinking, and problem-solving.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, teamwork, and relationship-building skills.
  • Demonstrated integrity, sound judgment, and strong work ethics.

Experience Requirements:

  • A minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in the HVAC sector, focusing on product design, development, and launch.
  • At least 5 years of experience in project management roles.

Educational Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial/Product Design, or a related discipline; a Master's degree is preferred.
  • Six Sigma certification is a plus.

People Management: This position does not involve direct people management responsibilities.

Reporting Structure: This position reports to the Manager or Director of Engineering.
