Your Opportunity + Impact
The Construction Services Engineer will function as a technical leader, requiring a Professional Engineer (PE) license and commensurate work experience. This position will foster relationships with Heavy Highway and Bridge Contractors, coordinate overall design activities, project submission schedules, and be responsible for Quality Assurance and Quality Control duties to ensure the final products meet technical requirements and client goals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work directly with Heavy Highway and Bridge Contractors to provide services upon request.
  • Prepare and review design computations, plan designs, and drawings.
  • Review submittals and coordinate project submissions.
  • Prepare and review specifications, draft letters, and written technical reports.
  • Complete inspections and field work assignments as needed.
  • Research, review, interpret, and understand written regulations, code compliance, and permit requirements and apply them to design projects.
  • Maintain appropriate documentation of work and project records.
  • Possess knowledge of Codes and Standards applicable to project designs.
  • Develop technically accurate, clean, and deliverable drawings.
  • Promote, utilize, and support quality assurance and quality control processes to improve the quality of deliverables and reduce design errors and omissions.
  • Perform work within assigned budgets.

Education + Experience

  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree in a relevant Engineering field from an ABET-accredited school or related field of study.
  • Minimum of 5 years of job-related experience in design for Heavy Highway or Bridge Construction services engineering. PennDOT or Pennsylvania Turnpike bridge design experience is preferred.
  • Licensure/Certification: Professional Engineer (PE) required.
  • Must have a desire to market LDG Contractor Engineering Services.
  • Must have thorough knowledge of the design and development process as it relates to providing contractor services and knowledge of AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications, ASHTO Guide Design Specification for Bridge Temporary Works, and PennDOT Design Manual, Part 4 Specification is required. Additional knowledge of transportation bridge projects Standards, Specifications, Engineering Software, and Microstation is preferred.
  • Understanding of and ability to interpret bridge design, bridge construction plans, and specifications, including special provisions, and other related project documents.
  • Must have experience designing temporary excavation support and protection systems, temporary works formwork/falsework designs, temporary support foundations including both shallow and deep, superstructure jacking, bridge demolition, and beam erection designs.
  • Steel, concrete, and wood design experience is preferred.
  • Bridge Design-Build, Alternate Design, and Value Engineering experience is preferred.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proficiency with Microstation, Shoring Suite, Enercalc, L-Pile, and PennDOT Bridge Design Software and other related software programs is preferred.
  • Must have a strong desire to expand knowledge base and undertake new responsibilities.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Possess strong oral and written communication skills, and have strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Must be able to work both independently and as part of a project team.
