Cambridge, Massachusetts, United States Flagship Ventures Full time

Join a Transformative Organization

Imagine being part of a pioneering enterprise that creates and nurtures life sciences companies dedicated to groundbreaking innovations in healthcare. In today's medical landscape, traditional disease diagnosis often involves invasive techniques, such as biopsies, which can be uncomfortable and costly for patients. These procedures typically occur after symptoms arise, presenting significant challenges in delivering timely interventions that could be more effective in the early stages of disease.

About FL103

FL103, a cutting-edge biotech firm, is committed to developing advanced technological and computational platforms aimed at detecting cellular dynamics from minimally invasive biospecimens. Our goal is to connect individuals with the most effective interventions to halt the onset and progression of diseases.

Position Overview

We are in search of a dedicated and skilled computational biologist to join our innovative team. The ideal candidate will be a passionate scientist eager to contribute to the development of state-of-the-art methodologies for analyzing cellular dynamics from non-invasive samples. This role offers a unique opportunity to play a critical part in shaping the future of FL103's innovative bioplatform.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Develop computational strategies to analyze and contextualize signals from extracellular vesicles derived from human biospecimens.
  2. Perform multi-omic analyses on human samples and associated datasets.
  3. Gather, assess, and utilize public data to understand early disease transitions from minimally invasive biospecimens.
  4. Assist in the design and analysis of data from cellular biology experiments to validate key hypotheses.
  5. Stay updated with scientific literature to maintain technical expertise.
  6. Collaborate with Contract Research Organizations (CROs) and external partners.
  7. Effectively communicate experimental findings through presentations and written reports, ensuring clarity for the FL103 team.
  8. Lead, mentor, and help build a strong computational team.

Qualifications

  1. PhD in computational biology, systems biology, bioinformatics, computer science, or related fields with 2-4 years of relevant industry or postdoctoral experience.
  2. Proficient in providing computational support for wet-lab experimental design, including power analysis and Bayesian planning.
  3. Hands-on experience with modern machine learning frameworks such as PyTorch or TensorFlow is essential.
  4. Familiarity with NGS techniques and the ability to collaborate effectively with experimental biologists.
  5. Experience in analyzing -omics data (e.g., single-cell and bulk RNA-seq, proteomics) using programming languages like R or Python.
  6. Knowledge of statistical inference and machine learning methods (e.g., random forests, SVMs, neural networks, transformers).
  7. Ability to manage multiple projects independently and collaboratively within a dynamic team environment.
  8. Excellent communication skills for presenting results and scientific data to internal teams and collaborators.
  9. Detail-oriented, adaptable, and curious.
  10. Enthusiastic about contributing to the foundation of a new biotech enterprise.
