Job Description

Position Overview:

Act as the Manufacturing Engineering lead for Surface Mount Technology (SMT), printed circuit board assembly, and Conformal Coating on both new and existing electronic products.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate the development of a skilled Manufacturing Engineering team to support business objectives.
  • Oversee the execution of the manufacturing strategy and lead its technical implementation. Provide insights to improve productivity, quality, and safety.
  • Translate critical issues such as quality, cycle time, cost reduction, and continuous improvement into actionable Manufacturing Engineering goals.
  • Collaborate closely with Operations, Continuous Improvement, and Quality teams to prepare for daily production meetings.
  • Serve as a technical advisor to team members on complex engineering challenges. This role involves hands-on engineering to guide process development and enhancements.
  • Define and manage projects aimed at identifying and implementing continuous yield and process improvements, ensuring cost-effective, high-quality manufacturing capabilities.
  • Assist the lead Manufacturing Engineering team in analyzing and resolving root causes of process challenges, implementing permanent solutions, and integrating new technologies for process control and cost efficiency.
  • Guide the team in implementing and managing real-time Statistical Process Control (SPC) and utilizing Six Sigma methodologies to establish effective process controls.

Required Experience:

  • Proficient in printed circuit board assembly techniques, including stencil selection, SMT component placement, reflow, wave soldering, and optical inspection.
  • Experience in the development of production equipment, tooling, and fixtures, including design and qualification.
  • Knowledge of Statistical Process Control and Lean Manufacturing principles.
  • Familiarity with inspection techniques and equipment.
  • Demonstrated ability in project management, facilitating teams, and negotiating with suppliers. Experience interfacing with vendors to procure high-quality equipment.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team to identify opportunities and resolve issues through consensus.
  • Understanding of manufacturing documentation such as BOMs, Routers, and Manufacturing Instructions.
  • Proficient in CAD software, including AutoCAD and SolidWorks, with the ability to generate engineering drawings.
  • Strong computer skills with MS Office and design software.
  • Hands-on experience with high-density SMT assembly processes.
  • Knowledge of soldering processes and Conformal Coating applications.
  • Experience in leading or managing technical teams.
  • Proven success in New Product Introduction (NPI) processes, collaborating with design engineering on advanced technology products.
  • Solid background in monitoring and enhancing manufacturing processes using SPC, Six Sigma, and Lean methodologies.
  • Familiarity with Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and scaling products from NPI to full production.
  • Thorough understanding of SMT materials and manufacturing processes.
  • Knowledge of advanced packaging strategies for system-in-package devices.
  • Strong engineering skills and troubleshooting experience with PCBA production equipment.
  • Excellent writing and organizational capabilities.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Industrial, Chemical, or Manufacturing Engineering. A Master's degree or MBA is advantageous.
  • 5-8 years of experience in Manufacturing or Process Engineering within the electronics sector is required, with 2 years in a leadership role preferred.
