Our Residential Treatment programs cater to children facing emotional and behavioral challenges. Our facilities provide a structured yet flexible environment that fosters intensive treatment, enabling children and their families to recognize, understand, and address their unique needs while developing essential skills for success in less restrictive environments.

Position Details:
The Recreation Therapy Specialist coordinates the activities of recreation service staff within a secured residential treatment facility for youth, performing various duties, including:

  • Managing student council and volunteer initiatives for youth.
  • Overseeing the use of recreational equipment, such as canoeing and high ropes courses, ensuring resident participation.
  • Developing and promoting a diverse recreation program encompassing music, dance, arts and crafts, cultural arts, nature exploration, swimming, social activities, and camping.
  • Facilitating life skills training through therapeutic recreational activities.
  • Adapting programs to meet the specific needs of residents.
  • Encouraging participation in clubs and organizations that support individual development.
  • Collaborating with a multidisciplinary team, including medical, social work, nursing, psychology, and therapy professionals, to ensure a well-rounded and integrated approach to recreation.
  • Maintaining accurate documentation and timely completion of required notes.
  • Ensuring the upkeep of recreational equipment and consulting with staff for necessary replacements.
  • Conducting initial recreational assessments upon intake.
  • Introducing and training staff on new program activities and equipment.

Additional Information:

The role requires physical agility, including prolonged periods of walking and standing, and may involve running and climbing stairs. Candidates must be capable of participating in physical interventions when necessary and may need to lift and move weights up to 50 pounds regularly, and occasionally more than 100 pounds. Completion of Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) and CPR training is mandatory.

Applicants must possess a valid driver's license and be prepared to work a flexible schedule, including some weekends.


Qualifications:

Requirements:
- A Bachelor's degree in Recreation Therapy is essential.
- CTRS certification is preferred, with eligibility required.
- Experience working with at-risk youth is highly advantageous.
- Proven experience with youth is necessary.
- Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
- Basic computer proficiency.
- Flexibility in scheduling is required.
