Role Summary:

The Residential Treatment programs at Youth Villages cater to children facing emotional and behavioral challenges. Our residential facilities provide an environment conducive to intensive treatment, balancing structure with freedom. This approach empowers children and their families to recognize, comprehend, and address their unique needs while cultivating the skills necessary for success in less restrictive environments. We operate three types of facilities: Intensive Residential Centers, Open Campuses, and Group Homes, all located in Tennessee and Georgia, employing the Re-Education of Emotionally Disturbed Children therapy model (Re-Ed).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee all aspects of pool operations, ensuring the safety of residents and the maintenance of facilities.
  • Conduct organized aquatic classes, including swimming lessons and recreational activities for all residents.
  • Maintain necessary certifications and training to ensure compliance (CPR, CPI, Certified Lifeguard Training).
  • Provide vigilant supervision for all swimmers.
  • Ensure the cleanliness of the pool, including vacuuming, chemical balance, and performing necessary repairs.
  • Evaluate new residents to determine their swimming proficiency.
  • Instruct advanced swimmers in lifesaving techniques.
  • Coordinate the pool schedule with cottage staff for both weekdays and weekends.
  • Assist with additional water-related activities (e.g., canoeing) as applicable to the campus.

Additional Information:

The pools operate from April through October, and we welcome candidates who can commit to the entire duration or partial hours. Lifeguards may work up to a maximum of 40 hours per week.

Compensation:

Hourly rate: $20

Qualifications:

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma.
  • Lifeguard certification (required) - on-site certification available for those who pass the swim test.
  • Preferred experience working with at-risk youth.

Swim Test Requirements:

  • Swim 300 yards continuously using front crawl or breaststroke.
  • Tread water for 2 minutes using only legs.
  • Complete a timed event within 1 minute 40 seconds: start in water, swim 20 yards, dive to retrieve a 10lb object from 9ft depth, return to the surface, swim 20 yards on your back while holding the object, and exit the water without using a ladder. This must be completed without goggles.
