This role is situated within the Office of the Special Coordinator dedicated to enhancing the United Nations' response to issues of sexual exploitation and abuse (SEA) at the UN Headquarters.

This Office plays a pivotal role in supporting the ongoing initiatives led by the Secretary-General and the leadership across various UN offices, departments, funds, and programs, alongside other partners, to fortify the UN's approach to SEA within peacekeeping, humanitarian, development, and human rights sectors.

The incumbent will report through the Senior Political Affairs Officer (P5) to the Special Coordinator (USG). This position is integral in promoting the UN's commitment to uphold its institutional responsibilities while also contributing to the enhancement of system-wide and inter-agency efforts regarding protection from sexual exploitation and abuse (PSEA).

This includes facilitating the implementation of the Secretary-General's strategy as outlined in his report on special measures for protection from sexual exploitation and abuse, focusing on improved system-wide coordination of PSEA with relevant stakeholders, policy and program development, advocacy, training, and field support.

Key Responsibilities

Within the scope of delegated authority, the Project Coordination Specialist will undertake the following responsibilities:

  • Design, execute, and assess assigned programs/projects aimed at advancing global initiatives for protection against sexual exploitation and abuse. This includes monitoring and analyzing project development and execution, reviewing pertinent documents and reports, identifying challenges, and initiating corrective measures while ensuring effective communication with relevant parties.
  • Conduct thorough research, analysis, and presentation of information sourced from diverse channels.
  • Provide expert guidance on identifying gaps or inconsistencies in PSEA and safeguarding policies, coordinating policy development, and preparing evaluations, assessments, or other research activities.
  • Support initiatives aimed at enhancing prevention, detection, reporting, and response to SEA, including training, risk assessment, and mitigation strategies, while providing substantive support for meetings, workshops, and conferences.
  • Raise awareness of PSEA issues among various audiences across humanitarian, development, and peacekeeping contexts through webinars and presentations.
  • Coordinate activities related to budget funding, including program/project proposals, progress reports, and financial statements.
  • Generate and support survey initiatives, design data collection tools, and analyze responses to identify trends and prepare conclusions.
  • Collaborate closely with UN system entities and other stakeholders through inter-agency coordination and relevant working groups.
  • Perform additional duties as required.

Education


An advanced university degree (Master's or Doctorate) in business administration, management, international law, or related fields is required. A first-level or advanced degree in any field with two additional years of relevant work experience may be accepted in lieu of an advanced degree.

Work Experience


A minimum of 7 years of progressively responsible experience in project or program management is required, with at least 5 years specifically in PSEA. Experience in developing PSEA guidance training is desirable.

Languages


Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official UN language is an advantage.
