Pay Grade: G-04 ($34.73 hourly)

Location: On-Site

Job Summary:

The Housing Support Specialist plays a crucial role in assisting individuals in their quest for stable housing. This position involves collaborating closely with clients to deliver essential support services throughout their housing search, engaging with potential landlords and property managers to facilitate access to permanent or supportive housing solutions. Responsibilities include aiding clients in completing rental applications, navigating supportive and subsidized housing documentation, and clarifying lease agreements while ensuring understanding of tenant rights and obligations. The specialist will also provide administrative support and collaborate effectively with team members.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Guide clients in formulating a strength-based, solution-oriented individualized or family goal and action plan aimed at achieving permanent housing and self-sufficiency.
  • Evaluate housing obstacles faced by individuals experiencing homelessness to identify their housing and service requirements.
  • Assist clients in their housing search and placement efforts, including completing rental applications and understanding lease agreements.
  • Conduct home inspections to verify the habitability of housing options.
  • Establish partnerships with local organizations, rental offices, and housing managers.
  • Ensure client applications comply with funding eligibility criteria.
  • Maintain organized records and documentation in the database.
  • Keep accurate daily logs, monthly outcome reports, and client files.
  • Advocate and mediate with landlords on behalf of clients to create feasible plans for securing and maintaining housing.
  • Participate in the negotiation and management of leases and housing assistance contracts.
  • Develop and deliver workshops on residential lease agreements to educate clients about their rights and responsibilities.
  • Maintain ongoing communication with clients to ensure timely progress in accordance with program and funding requirements.
  • Collaborate with Workforce Specialists and Career Counselors to assist clients in utilizing resources for job search and career advancement.
  • Refer clients to additional community services as necessary.
  • Process program-related paperwork in alignment with agency deadlines and prepare monthly reports.
  • Represent the agency at community, government, and business meetings.
  • Engage in outreach activities to promote the Housing program.
  • Keep management informed about activities, issues, and potential challenges.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution or equivalent experience.
  • At least one year of experience working with the homeless population.
  • Familiarity with LAHSA and related systems.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in case management and client intake.
  • Background working with the American Indian/Alaskan Native community.
  • Experience with nonprofit organizations and performance-based government contracts.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to effectively represent the agency in various community settings.
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation and policies affecting housing and health care.
  • Strong understanding of American Indian/Alaska Native cultures and effective communication skills.
  • Proficiency in using computer software, including Microsoft Office and virtual communication tools.
  • Commitment to maintaining client confidentiality and compliance with privacy laws.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Capacity to work independently and collaboratively within a team.

Working Conditions:

The work environment is primarily office-based, with varying noise levels. Employees may encounter a range of physical demands, including the need to lift and move items up to 25 pounds and engage in various physical activities.
