POSITION OVERVIEW:


The Livable Streets division is dedicated to creating safe and welcoming environments for pedestrians and cyclists, with a strong commitment to eliminating traffic fatalities and serious injuries.

This unit is tasked with the timely and budget-conscious delivery of projects aimed at enhancing bicycle, pedestrian, and traffic calming initiatives in collaboration with various city departments.

Key to this role is the ability to foster teamwork and build consensus among stakeholders, while also understanding the impacts of these projects on transit, accessibility, and overall traffic dynamics.


Under general supervision, the Senior Transportation Planner will oversee the planning, design, and execution of initiatives aimed at improving traffic safety and encouraging walking, cycling, and public transit use.

This role may involve delegating tasks to junior staff and taking the lead on significant projects.


CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:


1. Manage and coordinate bicycle, pedestrian, and traffic calming safety initiatives, ensuring effective collaboration among team members throughout all project phases.


2. Prepare and deliver presentations, and facilitate meetings with various stakeholders, including community groups, committees, and regulatory bodies.


3. Supervise staff and guide the creation of visual materials such as maps, charts, and reports to effectively communicate project ideas and outcomes.


4. Represent the agency in community engagements, establishing partnerships and clearly articulating policies, programs, and project goals.


5. Conduct comprehensive analyses and evaluations of transportation planning projects, ensuring alignment with technical, social, economic, and physical data.


6. Assess and interpret relevant legislation and regulations, applying them to the development and execution of transportation initiatives.


7. Prepare written and oral communications in response to inquiries from the public and advocacy groups.


8. Perform additional related duties as assigned.
