Position Summary:

This role is a technical leadership position focused on the advancement of data storage technologies, process innovation, and failure analysis, primarily utilizing analytical electron microscopy and sophisticated microanalysis techniques. The position entails significant customer engagement and requires a commitment to providing insightful analyses to resolve challenges in product design, process enhancement, and failure investigation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with customers across various teams, offering materials analysis expertise to identify root causes and develop solutions.
  • Enhance customer satisfaction by delivering timely and effective analytical insights.
  • Operate advanced electron microscopes, conduct microscopy and microanalysis, and interpret data to deliver comprehensive analyses.
  • Oversee capacity management, tool utilization, and workflow prioritization to optimize operational efficiency.
  • Develop specialized applications to address unique analytical needs or identify external solutions when necessary.
  • Mentor junior engineers and technicians in microscope operation, data collection, and analysis, while working with internal teams to streamline failure analysis processes.
  • Formulate and execute an internal analytical capability roadmap, spearheading application development and equipment enhancement to meet advanced development and failure analysis objectives.
  • Act as the primary liaison between the internal microscopy team and service support to ensure maximum operational uptime.
Qualifications:

Required:

  • Ph.D. in Physical Science or Materials Science with a specialization in electron microscopy and microanalysis.
  • A minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience operating modern transmission electron microscopes, including EELS, EDX, STEM, and nano-beam diffraction.
  • At least 3 years of demonstrated problem-solving experience.

Skills:

  • Proficient in electronic device-level failure analysis and project management.
  • Solid understanding of magnetic recording technology, data storage solutions, magnetic materials, semiconductor materials, and materials processing.
  • Experience with focused ion beam technology, surface analysis, and chemical analysis.
  • Familiarity with software tools such as MatLab, JMP, FEI, JEOL, Gatan, Oxford, Bruker, and 3D tomography.
