Position Overview:

The Assistant Manager for Pediatric Nursing plays a vital role in overseeing a specific department or several smaller units dedicated to providing outpatient care services. This position involves supervising daily operations and ensuring that patient care activities are conducted efficiently. The focus is on delivering high-quality, accessible, and cost-effective care that prioritizes patient needs while adhering to all applicable local, state, and federal regulations.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Oversees daily operations and ensures effective service delivery.
  • Guarantees that staff members deliver top-notch care in compliance with the Nurse Practice Act and other regulatory standards.
  • Implements and upholds patient care and quality service standards to meet the expectations of members and internal stakeholders.
  • Acts as an advocate for patients, addressing and resolving care-related issues.
  • Identifies, implements, and assesses processes aimed at enhancing systems and patient care outcomes across the care continuum.
  • Assists in the development and monitoring of budgets and resource allocations.
  • Evaluates financial performance and suggests strategies to optimize costs while improving care quality.
  • Determines the appropriate staffing mix for the department and develops processes for recruiting, hiring, training, and maintaining staff competency.
  • Facilitates ongoing staff development initiatives.
  • Supervises the execution of policies and procedures that align with the organization's goals and departmental objectives.
  • Collaborates with physicians, department leaders, and nursing managers to establish the appropriate level of patient services and manage daily departmental operations.
  • Assists in addressing human resource, labor relations, employee safety, and risk management matters.

Qualifications:

Experience:
  • At least two (2) years of experience in outpatient care or relevant clinical settings.
  • OR
  • A minimum of two (2) years in a leadership role within healthcare.
  • OR
  • Completion of a Postgraduate Fellowship in Health Care Administration.
Education:
  • Graduate from an accredited nursing program.
  • Bachelor's degree or four (4) years of experience in a related field.
  • High School Diploma or GED is required.
Licenses and Certifications:
  • Registered Nurse License (California) is required upon hire.
  • Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association is required upon hire.
Additional Skills:
  • Familiarity with the Nurse Practice Act, TJC, and other relevant regulations.
  • Ability to work effectively in a Labor/Management Partnership environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Specialization in pediatric nursing is preferred.
  • Experience in ambulatory care leadership is advantageous.
