Job Overview

The Healthcare Access Coordinator plays a crucial role in facilitating patient interactions and ensuring the efficient flow of resources to meet healthcare needs. This position involves the registration of patients seeking medical services, maintaining accurate medical records, handling incoming communications, and managing necessary documentation.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Oversees the waiting area, addressing any issues or concerns raised by patients, family members, or visitors.
  • Informs relevant personnel about complaints or concerns that require immediate attention.
  • Provides temporary solutions for various complaints or concerns.
  • Collects essential information from patients for registration, including accurate name, address, phone number, insurance details, employment information, and necessary signatures.
  • Inputs all vital information into the computer system.
  • Photocopies identification and insurance cards, attaching them to the patient chart.
  • Ensures all charts are signed for consent and initialed for accuracy.
  • Assists medical staff in retrieving information as needed.
  • Offers general information to patients regarding fees and directs them to appropriate resources, such as social workers or financial assistance for Medicaid applications.
  • Provides support to Physicians, Department Managers, and clinical staff as required.
  • Demonstrates effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.
  • Handles and discloses patients' protected health information (PHI) in compliance with HIPAA standards.
Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent preferred.
  • At least 1 year of customer service experience in a healthcare environment preferred.
Working Conditions:
  • Physical Demands: The employee may occasionally need to move around the work area, sit, perform manual tasks, operate office equipment such as computers and telephones, extend arms, kneel, talk, and hear.
  • Mental Demands: The employee must be capable of following directions, collaborating with others, and managing stress effectively.
  • Work Environment: The noise level in the work environment is typically minimal.
