Position Overview

The Healthcare Access Coordinator plays a crucial role in ensuring that public needs are met while effectively managing the flow of resources to support patient care. This position involves the registration of individuals seeking medical services, maintaining accurate medical records, handling incoming communications, and processing necessary documentation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversees the waiting area, addressing any issues or concerns raised by patients, their families, or visitors.
  • Alerts relevant personnel to any complaints or concerns that require immediate attention.
  • Provides temporary solutions for various complaints or concerns.
  • Collects precise information from patients for registration, including their name, address, phone number, insurance details, employment status, and required signatures for processing.
  • Ensures all essential information is accurately entered into the system.
  • Photocopies identification and insurance cards to attach to patient charts.
  • Secures all necessary consents and initials for correct address verification on charts.
  • Assists medical professionals in retrieving information as necessary.
  • Offers general information to patients regarding fees and directs them to social services or financial assistance for Medicaid applications.
  • Provides support to Physicians, Department Managers, and clinical staff as required.
  • Demonstrates effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.
  • Handles patients' protected health information (PHI) in compliance with HIPAA standards.
Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent preferred.
  • At least 1 year of customer service experience in a healthcare environment preferred.
Working Conditions:
  • Physical Demands: The employee may need to move around the work area, sit for extended periods, perform manual tasks, operate office equipment, and communicate effectively.
  • Mental Demands: The employee must be capable of following instructions, collaborating with colleagues, and managing stress effectively.
  • Work Environment: The typical noise level in the work environment is generally low.
