Structures Technician Sr. Job Description

At Blue Origin, we're working to develop reusable, safe, and low-cost space vehicles and systems within a culture of safety, collaboration, and inclusion. As a Structures Technician Sr., you will play a critical role in building human-rated Lunar Landers that can land on the moon in support of the MK1 and MK2 Lunar Lander Program.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Setup new production work areas, including tooling and equipment.
  • Assist with transition from development to production, including first articles.
  • Perform second-party verifications and hardware inspections to engineering models, drawings, specifications, and written procedures.
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and correct malfunctions by modification, rework, repair, and/or maintenance.
  • Perform root cause analysis and implement corrective actions for recurrence control.
  • Operate various material handling equipment, including forklifts, overhead cranes, aerial lifts, and other ground support equipment as required.
  • Setup and operate a wide range of precision calibrated tools, including torque wrenches, micrometers, calipers, laser trackers, height gauges, and optical measuring instruments.
  • Identify and implement continuous improvement projects for area safety and efficiency.
  • Perform routine maintenance functions, such as daily clean-up of work areas to support 5S, FOD, and ESD.
  • Work off-shift, extended hours overtime, and weekends as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or otherwise beneficial to fulfilling the mission and vision.
Qualifications:
  • 6+ years' experience in aerospace or related fields.
  • Excellent demonstrated verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate differing opinions in a collaborative environment without conflict among other team members.
  • Ability to use standard mechanical tools, fabrication shop equipment, and the capability to drill and prepare close-tolerance holes for fastener installation.
  • A&P license or equivalent experience in launch vehicle or propulsion system assembly and integration.
  • Knowledge in the use of 3-D CAD tools to view models for assembly.
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings and standards.
  • Ability to support Monday through Friday, 2nd shift, 2pm-10:30pm, and additional weekend overtime as requested.
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
Desired Qualifications:
  • 10+ years of experience in launch vehicle or propulsion system assembly and vehicle integration.
  • Experience with composite and metallic structure fabrication, such as precision drilling, cutting, and assembly.
  • Experience with installation and maintenance of avionic instrumentation and harness assemblies.
  • Experience operating heavy lifting equipment, such as cranes and forklifts, around flight-critical hardware.
  • Familiarity with tube fabrication (bend, flare, fittings, etc.) and pressurized system safety.
