Compensation: Starting pay is $45.13/hourly, based on experience.

Position Summary

The Transportation Dispatcher is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the transit system from a centralized control center. This role involves coordinating the shift schedules of Bus Operators and directing their activities through various communication methods. The Dispatcher ensures the smooth operation of services by dispatching resources as needed.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Supervise daily sign-on/sign-off processes and issue vehicle assignments.
  • Monitor and report attendance issues such as late arrivals and no-shows.
  • Adjust weekly schedules to accommodate planned and unexpected changes in service.
  • Develop and communicate detour plans in collaboration with Road Supervisors.
  • Relay critical information regarding service disruptions and incidents to relevant parties.
  • Coordinate responses to major service interruptions and collaborate with external agencies.
  • Provide real-time updates on service changes through the passenger information system.
  • Manage on-time performance and resource allocation for route recovery.
  • Document all incidents and collaborate with management for resolution.
  • Utilize advanced software systems for effective operational supervision.
  • Facilitate shift changes and manage overtime in accordance with policies.
  • Adapt to changing service demands while ensuring compliance with regulations.
  • Analyze operational data to enhance service delivery.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:

Education: High school diploma or equivalent.

Experience: Minimum of five years in transit operations, dispatching, or management.

Supervisory Role:

This position entails direct supervision of a sector within the service area, managing assignments and dispatching orders to a team of 45-90 employees.

Working Environment:

The role is based in an office setting, requiring the ability to work long hours at a dispatch console. The work environment can range from calm to highly stressful, necessitating physical capability to manage various tasks.
