Position Overview

The Billing Specialist will undertake a diverse range of responsibilities within our medical billing department. This role involves utilizing coding systems to accurately categorize patient information for billing and record-keeping purposes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Verify the accuracy and completeness of patient bills and gather any necessary information.
  • Prepare, review, and submit claims using our billing software, including both electronic and paper submissions.
  • Maintain knowledge of insurance protocols, including HMO/PPO, Medicare, and state Medicaid.
  • Follow up on outstanding claims within the standard billing cycle.
  • Ensure accuracy in insurance payments and compliance with contractual agreements.
  • Communicate with insurance companies to resolve payment discrepancies.
  • Identify and process secondary or tertiary insurance claims.
  • Conduct thorough reviews of accounts for follow-up actions.
  • Research and appeal denied claims as necessary.
  • Address inquiries from patients or insurance representatives regarding assigned accounts.
  • Establish patient payment plans and manage collection accounts.
  • Update billing software with any rate changes.
  • Maintain cash spreadsheets and generate collection reports.
  • Provide courteous and efficient assistance to clients.
  • Achieve and exceed performance goals set during evaluations.
  • Enhance knowledge of relevant technology and processes.

Qualifications

  • Associate's Degree in Business Administration or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Certification in Medical Billing and Coding.
  • Familiarity with HMO/PPO, Medicare, Medicaid, and other payer systems.
  • Proficient in computer systems and billing software.
  • Ability to accurately code medical conditions and procedures using ICD-10-CM and CPT.
  • Strong communication skills for effective interactions with insurance payers.
  • Customer service aptitude for engaging with patients regarding billing matters.
  • Team-oriented with problem-solving capabilities to address discrepancies and denials.
  • Understanding of medical terminology relevant to billing processes.
