Position Overview:

Reports to: Chief Financial Officer

Direct Reports: Vice President, Controller and Vice President, Finance—Operations

Role Summary:

The Executive Vice President of Finance and Accounting will play a crucial role within the Executive Leadership Team, overseeing various facets of financial stewardship and performance assessment. This includes responsibilities for general accounting, financial disclosures, budgeting, forecasting, financial analysis, and treasury oversight. The position entails managing accounting practices, financial reporting, and budgeting systems, along with directing the annual audit and ensuring adherence to all accounting standards and regulatory mandates.

Key Responsibilities:

General Management

  • Recruit, develop, and retain skilled and dedicated personnel. Set clear performance expectations for each direct report. Foster a culture that emphasizes integrity and promotes collaboration across functions and departments within the organization.

Financial Accounting and Reporting

  • Supervise all accounting and financial reporting activities, ensuring compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). This includes the timely preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports, as well as variance analysis against budget and other performance metrics.
  • Oversee the annual audit process and the preparation of all tax returns for the organization.

Budgeting and Financial Forecasting

  • Guide finance team members in collaboration with program leadership to ensure the timely completion of annual budgets and ongoing financial forecasts.
  • Assist the CFO in preparing business cases, cost-benefit analyses, profitability assessments, and other ad-hoc analyses critical for strategic and operational decision-making.

New Business Development

  • Lead the finance team in supporting all new program initiatives within Business Development, ensuring timely preparation of necessary analyses, projections, budgets, and proposals.
  • Collaborate with the CFO to conduct due diligence and comprehensive financial evaluations for potential partnerships or acquisitions, providing senior leadership with high-quality information essential for informed decision-making.
  • Ensure the successful integration of new programs and acquisitions into the financial framework of the organization.

Financial Systems Management

  • Direct the finance team in working with the Information Technology Business Systems team and external consultants to prioritize, test, and implement modifications and enhancements to the organization’s financial systems.

Candidate Profile:

Technical Qualifications

  • A minimum of 12 years of progressively responsible experience in accounting and financial leadership, with at least 5 years in not-for-profit accounting, preferably within a human services or similar sector.
  • Proven track record in building strong accounting and finance teams, systems, and reporting structures.
  • Extensive knowledge of financial systems, implementation, and integration.
  • Expertise in cost reduction and process enhancement.
  • Familiarity with non-profit accounting standards, particularly those related to revenue recognition.

Educational Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting.
  • CPA certification is required.

Compensation:

  • Salary range: $180,000 to $195,000 plus bonus.
