THE TEAM
The Sourcing team plays a crucial role in transforming our unique designs into market-ready products in collaboration with our manufacturing partners. We work closely with various internal teams, including Merchandising, Product Development, Research & Development, and Supply Chain, to ensure an exceptional experience for dogs and their owners. Our team is characterized by a deep passion for dogs and customers, with a strong focus on cost, quality, flexibility, and collaboration.
WHO WE'RE LOOKING FOR
We are in search of a Sourcing Manager for our Consumables category to spearhead BARK's growth and product development in the dog treat, food, and wellness sectors. This role will report to the Director of Sourcing, Consumables, and will involve close collaboration with our key suppliers, leading the execution of sourcing strategies for contract manufacturing and packaging solutions. Additionally, the position will oversee the management of new product launches from inception to completion.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Implement category strategies: Collaborate with all Consumables teams to execute action plans for contract manufacturers and packaging components.
- Forecasting & Capacity Management: Partner with Planning to consolidate forecasts, address capacity issues, and provide monthly updates to suppliers.
- Enhance internal purchasing and development processes, ensuring adherence to milestones during new product development.
- Lead weekly sourcing and development discussions with core suppliers.
- Support new product launch initiatives: Collaborate with R&D and Business teams to finalize product specifications, packaging, and pricing.
- Manage excess packaging inventory, monitor aging, and develop consumption plans.
- Oversee weekly production reports, ensuring timely delivery.
- Identify and develop new suppliers focused on speed, quality, cost, and supply stability.
- A minimum of 5 years in a reputable supply chain organization with proven results in managing direct materials and packaging categories.
- Experience in the food or consumables sector is highly preferred; a background in CPG or sourcing/procurement/supply chain roles is essential.
- Proficient in category management across various channels and capable of leading multiple strategic sourcing initiatives simultaneously.
- Strong project management skills, including stakeholder engagement, timeline management, and meeting facilitation.
- Familiarity with payment processes and ERP systems.
- Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal; comfortable engaging with internal teams and external partners.
- Able to influence change and drive significant commercial decisions across diverse stakeholders.
- A dynamic, self-motivated individual who embraces constructive feedback and motivates others.
- Bachelor's Degree in business, chemistry, engineering, supply chain, or a related field.
- Proficient in Excel, PLM, and Google applications.
- Experience in both DTC and Retail environments is advantageous.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills (both written and verbal).
- Creative thinker with robust analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to work independently and take initiative.
- Organized and proactive in project management; actively seeks information and solutions.
