Job Overview:
The Emergency Care Technician serves as a vital clinical support member within the Critical Care and Emergency Services environments.

This role involves assisting the healthcare team in executing various tasks and procedures for patients who are critically ill or require specialized observation.

Work Schedule:
Days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays are required.

Minimum Shift Requirement:
Must work at least two shifts per month and two holidays per year.

Scope of Work:
Employees are expected to work in a Critical Care or Emergency Services setting.

Key Responsibilities:

Patient Support:
Assists with the admission, discharge, and transfer of patients, including transportation.

Delivers exceptional customer service when addressing patient and family inquiries.

Records and reports patient care observations and data promptly. Communicates changes in patient conditions swiftly and secures qualified assistance as necessary.

When assigned to a clinical unit, may be tasked with delivering medications to the RN.

Critical Care Responsibilities:
Prioritizes and provides patient care as directed by the RN or other interdisciplinary team members. This may encompass collecting patient data, monitoring vital signs, administering oxygen therapy, and conducting cardiac monitoring.

Acts in critical care scenarios as instructed by RN or MD.

Assists with emergency resuscitation efforts, setup, and support for line insertions, as well as the retrieval of necessary supplies and equipment.

Identifies and fulfills unit and patient care needs with minimal supervision.

Team Collaboration:
Engages in collaboration and consultation with RNs and other interdisciplinary team members to ensure optimal patient care.

Exhibits effective teamwork, prioritization, communication, and organizational skills.

Performs non-nursing tasks as assigned, such as cleaning, stocking, answering phones, clerical support, and providing directions.

Qualifications:
If performing Point of Care Testing:

Educational Requirements:
High School diploma or GED in accordance with CLIA regulations.

CNA Certification.

- or
  • EMT or Paramedic Certification in the state of practice.
- or
  • MA Certification (if working in the Emergency Services).
- and
  • Basic Life Support Certification (BLS) for healthcare providers.
Effective verbal and written communication skills are essential.

Preferred Qualifications:

One year of experience as a CNA, EMT, or MA, or relevant healthcare experience.

  • Current enrollment in nursing education.
- and
  • Basic computer proficiency.
- and
  • EKG training.

Physical Demands:
Continuous need for the employee to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, and identify equipment and supplies.

  • Frequent interactions with patient care providers, patients, and visitors necessitating effective verbal communication and the ability to hear and comprehend spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues promptly and accurately, especially during emergencies.

  • Manual dexterity is required to handle complex and delicate equipment with precision.
This includes frequent computer use and typing for documenting patient care, accessing necessary information, and preparing medications.

  • Expected to lift and utilize a full range of motion to assist in patient transfers.
This includes bending to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment, often involving items of varying weights.

  • Must be able to walk and assist with transporting patients and obtaining and distributing supplies and equipment.
This includes pushing/pulling gurneys and portable equipment, including heavy items, and navigating crowded environments.

  • May be required to maintain a stationary position for extended periods.

Compensation Information:
