Position Overview:
Central Iowa Power Cooperative (CIPCO) is actively seeking a dedicated Vehicle Maintenance Technician to become a vital part of our traveling construction team.

The technician will be responsible for servicing all cooperative vehicles and machinery, which includes conducting inspections, performing diagnostics, executing repairs, implementing upgrades, and managing maintenance tasks. This role also encompasses budgeting, inventory management of parts, and thorough recordkeeping.

This position requires 100% travel throughout the CIPCO transmission network, located entirely within Iowa. There are no residency restrictions, allowing for weekly travel to various job sites.

The standard work schedule is from 6:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Tuesday through Friday, with occasional adjustments to Monday through Thursday.

This role is governed by a collective bargaining agreement and offers a comprehensive benefits package.


Key Responsibilities:
Vehicle Inspection and Repair:
- Conduct inspections, upgrades, maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs on fleet vehicles and equipment, which include brakes, engines, electrical systems, hydraulics, transmissions, ignitions, air and exhaust systems, and axle assemblies.
- Fleet vehicles encompass all vehicles or trailers utilized by CIPCO personnel, including digger trucks, bucket trucks, and other construction apparatus.
- Identify and troubleshoot fleet issues, recommending and implementing cost-effective repair or replacement solutions. This includes dielectric, aerial, and IDOT inspections.
- Provide emergency field assistance for disabled equipment.
- Address inquiries and concerns from vehicle and equipment users.
- Operate vehicles to deliver equipment and materials as needed during repairs or while assisting other CIPCO staff.

Recordkeeping and Compliance:
- Develop and uphold a fleet repair and maintenance schedule.
- Maintain an inventory of necessary supplies and tools for repairs and maintenance.
- Ensure accurate documentation to optimize fleet operations.
- Guarantee compliance with all DOT, safety, and relevant local, state, and federal regulations.
- Assist in budget planning and the procurement of new fleet vehicles and equipment, as well as the disposal of retired vehicles and equipment.
- Stay updated on technological advancements and trends in fleet management through publications and training.

Qualifications:
- High School diploma or GED.
- Completion of a diesel mechanic technical training program or equivalent on-the-job experience.
- Valid driver's license/CDL license required.
- Crain Operation Certification preferred.
- Welding Certification preferred.
- DOT Inspections Certification preferred.
- Advanced knowledge of diesel vehicles, equipment components, and diagnostic tools.
- Proficient in operating all fleet vehicles, systems, equipment, and tools.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
- Comprehensive understanding of DOT, safety, and other fleet-related regulations.
- Detail-oriented with excellent prioritization, organizational, and time-management skills.
- Self-motivated with a high level of initiative.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment and assist colleagues.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Capability to perform job-related recordkeeping.
