JOB SUMMARY

The Head Custodian is responsible for overseeing and guiding the custodial staff, ensuring that the school facilities are maintained and cleaned to provide a safe, secure, and comfortable environment conducive to student learning.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Supervises custodial team members, including onboarding, training, and leading team meetings.
  • Develops and manages the custodial schedule.
  • Assumes responsibility for campus operations in the absence of the Building Manager or Campus Operations Manager.
  • Assists the Building Manager or Campus Operations Manager as needed.
  • Performs cleaning duties in classrooms, restrooms, hallways, multipurpose rooms, offices, and all interior and exterior areas of the school.
  • Empties trash receptacles and disposes of waste appropriately.
  • Prepares and sanitizes the dining area before, during, and after meal periods.
  • Responds to emergency cleaning situations, such as spills and clogged drains.
  • Conducts minor routine maintenance tasks, including replacing light bulbs and changing filters.
  • Performs basic grounds-keeping duties, such as litter removal.
  • Reports necessary repair work to the appropriate personnel.
  • Assists in setting up and arranging furniture for events and meetings.
  • Organizes and stocks cleaning supplies.
  • Ensures all building doors are secured and sets the alarm system when leaving the premises.
  • Maintains awareness of safety and security needs for students, staff, and facilities.
  • Facilitates custodial meetings.
  • Supervises the Night Custodial Crew.
  • May assist with additional projects during breaks, such as deep cleaning.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Demonstrates knowledge of and supports the Aspire Public Schools mission, vision, and values, including antiracism and confidentiality standards.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
  1. Competencies:
  • Knowledge of safe and efficient use of cleaning materials, chemicals, tools, and equipment.
  • Ability to perform minor maintenance tasks.
  • Willingness to meet the physical demands of the job, including lifting and moving heavy objects.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records.
  • Capability to work independently.
  • Ability to interact appropriately with children of various ages in a school setting.
  1. Minimum Educational Level:
  • High School Diploma or GED or equivalent experience.
  1. Experience Required:
  • 1-3 years of custodial experience preferred.
  1. Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and reach overhead.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 30 pounds.
  • Repetitive use of hands for various tasks.
  • Ability to see and read a computer screen and printed materials.
  • Ability to hear and understand speech at normal levels.
  1. Work Authorization Requirements:
  • Clear the Department of Justice background screening.
  • Authorized to work in the United States.
  • Provide health (TB) clearance as required.
WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • May require working outside of typical hours to meet operational needs.
The hourly rate for this position is $22.55 - $32.85 based on years of experience.
