Job Summary:

As a Nursing Care Coordinator Assistant at Bronx-Lebanon Hospital Center, you will play a vital role in the coordination of nursing care on a shift within a specific unit. You will assist the Nurse Manager in supervising all nursing activities related directly or indirectly to patient care, ensuring that the philosophy, standards, objectives, and policies of the Department of Nursing and the Hospital Center are upheld.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Foster positive relationships with patients, visitors, and colleagues, interacting professionally, courteously, and appropriately to maintain a positive public perception of Bronx-Lebanon Hospital Center.
  • Contribute to Performance/Quality Improvement activities, participating in data collection, analysis, and implementation of risk management and claims activities, as well as Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) teams.
  • Administer nursing care based on scientific and therapeutic principles, adhering to physicians' orders and demonstrating a competent level of technical skill.
  • Assist in coordinating the development, planning, implementation, and evaluation of the nursing regimen for patients within a given unit, ensuring patient needs are met through appropriate personnel assignment.
  • Coordinate staff activities in the performance of the nursing process, participating in patient care conferences and reviewing trends pertinent to the delivery of nursing care within the unit.
  • Evaluate current and changing needs of the nursing unit, making recommendations to the Nurse Manager and participating in the planning, development, and implementation of alternative approaches to the delivery of nursing care.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care based on physical, psychosocial, educational, safety, and related criteria, appropriate to the age of patients served in assigned areas.
  • Identify physical, behavioral, and emotional characteristics typical for the age group, modifying approaches based on patient age-specific needs and responses to treatment.
  • Provide care for patients based on age-specific needs, using communication techniques that are age-appropriate.
  • Assist members of the nursing staff in developing their nursing performance by assessing their needs, giving instruction and guidance, and providing input to the Nurse Manager in the evaluation process.
  • Recommend the progression of new employees from one phase of unit-based orientation to another, assisting in preparing time schedules and daily staffing.
  • Make recommendations regarding your schedule to meet the responsibilities of the position, identifying needs to the clerical staff and recommending changes in nursing practice and policy through the Nurse Manager or nursing committee.
  • Participate in the department's Performance Improvement activities, maintaining patient/employee confidentiality in the management of information and collaborating with the Nurse Manager to maintain adequate material resources.
  • Verify that equipment is safe and appropriately utilized, assessing that supplies are appropriately utilized, and supervising personnel in the absence of the Nurse Manager.
  • Collaborate with educators and staff in meeting patient and unit needs, promoting inter and intra-departmental communications to provide continuity of patient care, and participating in departmental committees.
  • Utilize learning resources, participate in the development of other staff members, and meet regulatory licensure and annual health assessment requirements.
  • Demonstrate a professional, courteous, and respectful attitude in dealing with patients, families, and significant others, displaying courtesy, tact, and patience during interactions with all members of the hospital staff and extended community.
  • Project a professional image through behavior, grooming, and attire, and may be required to perform other duties as assigned within the scope of practice.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of two (2) years nursing experience preferred.
  • Demonstrates leadership abilities.
  • Demonstrates commitment to continuing professional development through appropriate continuing education.
  • NYS Registered Professional Nurse License.
  • Bachelors in Nursing or related field.
