Job Description and Duties

Under the direction of a Transportation Surveyor Party Chief or Senior Transportation Surveyor, the incumbent will function as office support to field survey crews, a member of a field survey crew, or perform complex surveying calculations. Responsibilities include preparing various Right of Way (R/W) and surveying maps, preparing legal descriptions and deeds, providing information to the public, and reducing and analyzing field data.

Working Conditions:

This position is located in San Luis Obispo, San Luis Obispo County. The incumbent will typically split time working in an air-conditioned office setting with artificial lighting and/or natural lighting and working in the field. Duties may require the use of a desktop or laptop computer for extended periods. The incumbent must be able to travel to project locations away from their home requiring overnight travel, work overtime when needed, work on foot near heavy traffic, and work in extreme weather conditions including wet, dusty, and dirty environments.

Requirements:
  • Valid Professional Land Surveying License issued by the California Board of Registration for Professional Engineers (required for Range D)
  • Possession of a valid driver's license is required when operating a state-owned or leased vehicle

Business travel may be required, and reimbursement considers an employee's designated headquartered location, primary residence, and may be subject to CalHR regulations or applicable bargaining unit contract provisions.
