About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Professional Land Surveyor Supervisor to join our team at Jefferson County. As a key member of our public works team, you will be responsible for overseeing and evaluating the work of staff engaged in engineering tasks across various public works projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Communicate with various entities to inform them of the nature of construction projects and existing utility issues.
  • Examine and review plans of construction and maintenance projects to determine the needs of the project and identify appropriate staff to assign projects to.
  • Interpret and analyze information provided in written documents, surveyor data, and on technical drawings or plans to evaluate a project's feasibility, need for changes, or begin the drafting process.
  • Procure and/or manage inventory to ensure the products and services are available to meet the operational needs of each department.
  • Perform trigonometric, geometric, and algebraic calculations using a calculator and proper equations to complete construction and maintenance assignments.
  • Plan, coordinate, oversee, and review the collection of land survey data necessary for the location of various structures for the development of detailed maps of survey areas to complete construction design plans.
  • Supervise staff by assigning and distributing work, directing staff in their job duties, monitoring progress of work, providing feedback and/or training.
Requirements
  • Driver's license.
  • Professional Land Surveyor Certification from the Alabama Board of Engineers and Land Surveyors.
  • Supervisory experience to include assigning and reviewing work and training employees.
  • Field experience performing land surveying work to include conducting boundary surveys, reading property maps, and land ties.
  • Experience performing construction stake-outs to include identifying layout points, GPS coordinates, etc.
