Job Summary

Save the Children is seeking a highly experienced and skilled Strategic Project Director to lead and enable Project Managers to deliver large and complex transformational projects. The ideal candidate will have a strong track record of managing and deploying large-scale projects in complex organizational environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Project Management and Delivery
    • Coach and support Project Leads to develop their skills and capabilities.
    • Provide project-related expertise and guidance to senior stakeholders.
    • Work with Project Leads to ensure projects are supported by adequate resources and have clear governance and operational acceptance processes.
    • Ensure transformation projects are successfully completed and project management deliverables are progressed through project stage-gates.
  • Portfolio Management
    • Prepare and maintain a high-level integrated plan across the portfolio.
    • Build an integrated resourcing plan across the portfolio.
    • Proactively monitor and raise key dependencies across projects within the portfolio.
    • Support the development and delivery of materials for the Transformation Steering Group.
    • Maintain oversight into portfolio financials and support annual and monthly budgeting activities.
  • PMO Operations and Capacity Building
    • Maintain the development of the SC Project Management Methodology.
    • Partner with BTS to incorporate IT-related deliverables into the PM Methodology.
    • Maintain accountability for the PM software used by the PMO.
    • Build out an annual workplan to attain and maintain the desired level of PMO maturity.
    • Train and coach staff in project-related methodologies.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a Bachelor Degree or equivalent experience, plus at least 10 years of relevant experience.
  • Experience in non-profit, international development, project management, change & deployment or related field.
  • Experience with the successful management and deployment of large, transformation projects in complex organizational environments.
  • Experience with industry project and management standards and holding project teams accountable to those standards.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Continuous Improvement Green Belt certification.
  • Accelerated Delivery and Improvement certification.
  • Experience leading data & digital-related projects.
  • Experience with both Agile and waterfall project methodologies.

Compensation

Save the Children offers a competitive salary range based on location, with a target salary range of $119,850 - $147,250 for US-based candidates.
