Role Summary

The Senior Clinical Therapist plays a pivotal role in treating patients through various therapeutic modalities as part of a multidisciplinary clinical team. This position also includes providing clinical supervision to team members, particularly those pursuing advanced licensure.

Key Responsibilities

A typical day for a Senior Clinical Therapist at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:

  1. Conducting thorough assessments of patients' psychosocial needs and formulating treatment plans in accordance with departmental policies.
  2. Delivering effective behavioral health treatment and education, which may involve individual or group therapy, while effectively communicating with staff, families, and authorized agencies.
  3. Ensuring services are provided in compliance with the regulations set forth by the relevant licensure boards.
  4. Applying knowledge of developmental stages and evidence-based treatment options to create tailored treatment plans.
  5. Assisting in the development, coordination, and evaluation of social work policies and procedures.
  6. Participating in the orientation and training of new staff members.
  7. Supervising social work and counseling students during their field placements.
  8. Contributing to quality assurance and performance improvement initiatives.
  9. Attending committee meetings and completing necessary administrative tasks, including statistical analysis of patient volume.
  10. Ensuring timely completion of all documentation in line with departmental and hospital policies.
  11. Providing comprehensive case management services as needed.
  12. Assessing Social Determinants of Health (SDOH) and offering appropriate information, education, and referrals to meet patient needs.
  13. Collaborating with patients (with their consent), families, and other support persons to develop effective discharge plans.
  14. Regularly reassessing treatment plans, evaluating progress, and making necessary adjustments.
  15. Maintaining confidentiality of patient health information as mandated by law and organizational policies.
  16. Assisting fellow behavioral and medical team members in emergency situations.
  17. Having a comprehensive understanding of community resources and referring patients as appropriate.
  18. Presenting at professional meetings and preparing materials for publication in relevant journals, if applicable.
  19. Identifying the unique needs of the patient population and adapting care accordingly, including effective communication and education tailored to their level.
  20. Adhering to the standards outlined in the Medical Center's Organizational Competencies.
  21. Meeting physical demands, including lifting and standing for extended periods.
  22. Performing additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required Education, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  1. Master's degree in Social Work (MSW), Counseling, or a related field.
  2. A minimum of 5 years of post-advanced licensure experience.
  3. Strong proficiency in policy review and program planning.
  4. Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment.
  5. Exceptional attention to detail and follow-through.
  6. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  7. Proficient in computer applications, including Microsoft Office and Google Suite.

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Experience in providing leadership, coaching, and mentoring to team members.

Licenses and Certifications:

  1. Professional Counselor License or NJ Licensed Clinical Social Worker or Marriage and Family Therapy, Professional Counselor.
  2. Approved Clinical Supervisor or Clinical Social Worker Supervision Certification.

Carrier Clinic Specific Certification:

Completion of Handle with Care certification during new hire orientation is required.
