DESCRIPTION

The role involves overseeing and directing professional and support staff engaged in social service operations within the Department of Social Services. This position entails supervising and actively participating in the delivery of adult services and child care programs, which includes intake processes and case management. The supervisor will perform various administrative and managerial tasks as required.

DUTIES
  • Oversees and engages in adult service programs, such as protective services, care home management, and case management.
  • Manages and participates in child care service programs.
  • Supervises social workers and support personnel, including instructing, planning, and assigning tasks, as well as reviewing work and maintaining standards.
  • Evaluates subordinate performance and provides constructive feedback.
  • Facilitates training and professional development for staff.
  • Ensures adherence to federal and state regulations, as well as agency policies.
  • Reviews and recommends changes to program policies to enhance service delivery.
  • Prepares and oversees budgets; reviews invoices for payment.
  • Collaborates with state program consultants to coordinate activities.
  • Negotiates contracts with service providers.
  • Reviews intake documents for accuracy.
  • Consults with social workers on individual cases as needed.
  • Conducts home assessments to gather information.
  • Ensures compliance with case requirements and approves case closures.
  • Available for on-call duties as scheduled.
  • Compiles and prepares various reports for decision-making and compliance purposes.
  • Addresses inquiries and complaints related to services.
  • Promotes departmental programs through community engagement.
  • Assists with special projects as assigned.
  • Utilizes various office equipment and technology for administrative tasks.
  • Communicates effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders.
  • Participates in training and professional development opportunities.
  • Handles crisis intervention and emergency shelter operations as needed.
  • Performs administrative tasks, including report preparation and data management.
  • Engages in other related duties as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • In-depth understanding of social services policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of the functions of governmental agencies.
  • Familiarity with relevant laws and regulations.
  • Ability to ensure compliance and effective supervision.
  • Expertise in social services principles, particularly in child welfare.
  • Capability to assess home environments and protect children's rights.
  • Knowledge of case recording and report preparation methods.
  • Ability to remain calm in emergencies and handle confrontational situations professionally.
  • Skills in public relations and community education.
  • Capacity to make informed decisions and manage staff effectively.
  • Ability to plan and organize social work programs.
  • Competence in administrative principles and employee evaluations.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and work independently.
  • Proficiency in modern office practices and technology.
  • Ability to conduct mathematical calculations and interpret complex materials.
  • Ability to maintain effective relationships with various stakeholders.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Minimum Education and Experience
Master's Degree in Social Work or a related field with relevant experience; or a Bachelor's Degree in Social Work with additional experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Special Requirements
Possession of a valid driver's license is required.
