Job Overview

The FOIL Unit manages a significant volume of record requests annually, necessitating timely and thorough responses. The ideal candidate will engage in telephone communication with various public and private organizations, track the status of requests from the public, and relay findings back to them. This role encompasses various administrative responsibilities associated with FOIL requests, including the acknowledgment of incoming requests within the legally mandated timeframe and the entry of requests received via mail into the centralized Open Records Portal.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review and respond to FOIL requests that involve extensive documentation.
  • Conduct searches for records across multiple electronic databases, physical documents, and other data sources.
  • Provide comprehensive responses to FOIL inquiries, including identifying applicable exemptions and performing necessary redactions on documents.

Eligibility Criteria

To qualify for this position, candidates must either be permanently appointed as a Clerical Associate, have applied for the Clerical Associate examination and be reachable on the civil service list, or be eligible under the 55A Program.

Qualifications

A high school diploma or its equivalent recognized by a State's educational department, along with a minimum of one year of relevant clerical experience.

Skills Required

Proficiency in keyboarding with a typing speed of at least 100 keystrokes (20 words) per minute.
