Position Overview

This role offers the flexibility of remote work within the Eastern US Time Zone or a hybrid model based in Raleigh, NC, requiring 2-3 days in the office each week.


The Senior Benefits Accountant plays a crucial role in managing the financial aspects of payroll and employee benefits. This includes ensuring that all financial transactions associated with payroll and benefits are accurately documented, reconciled, and reported. Collaboration with the HR department is essential to ensure alignment between financial reporting and employee benefits.


Key Responsibilities


1. Manage the accounting and financial reporting for payroll and employee benefit plans, including equity compensation, health insurance, retirement plans, life insurance, and disability insurance.

2. Reconcile accounts related to payroll and benefits, and prepare journal entries for monthly closing processes.

3. Ensure timely and accurate payment of benefits invoices and appropriate cost allocation.

4. Assist in the preparation of financial analyses and budget forecasts concerning employee benefits.

5. Prepare valuations for new equity compensation grants.

6. Review monthly stock issuance transactions for accuracy and prepare quarterly and annual summaries for external auditors.

7. Prepare 10-K and 10-Q disclosures related to pensions and stock-based compensation, including all supporting documentation.

8. Support the annual employee benefit plan audit by preparing and/or reviewing Forms 5500 and 11-K.

9. Manage relationships with external vendors relevant to the benefits accounting division.

10. Ensure compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and accounting standards related to benefits accounting.

11. Collaborate with internal and external auditors to provide necessary documentation and explanations for annual audits.


Candidate Profile
You are a motivated and results-driven professional capable of working independently in a dynamic environment. Strong interpersonal skills and a collaborative spirit are essential.

- A minimum of 5 years of accounting experience is required, with a preference for benefits accounting experience.
- Experience with Form 5500 and 11-K reporting is necessary.
- Strong understanding of accounting principles and standards, particularly in relation to benefits accounting.
- Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel and Access, is required.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
- Detail-oriented with a commitment to accuracy in financial reporting.
- Ability to handle sensitive information confidentially.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Capability to work collaboratively across departments and with various management levels.
- A Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is required.
- CPA or equivalent professional accounting qualification is preferred.

Benefits
The base salary range for this position is $79,300 to $100,600 per year. Actual compensation will be determined based on various factors, including experience, skills, location, and internal equity.
