About the Role

We are looking for a Project Geologist to assist in environmental restoration and emerging contaminants initiatives for various clients. The Project Geologist will engage in remedial investigations, design, and actions for contaminated sites across the United States, necessitating a solid grasp of environmental investigation and remediation principles. This role entails monitoring subcontractors to ensure compliance with environmental regulations, policies, and contractual obligations, as well as overseeing in-house field teams conducting site investigations and remediation efforts at contaminated locations. Responsibilities may include drafting technical documents such as reports and decision documents as required by project contracts.

This position offers a hybrid remote work arrangement based in Phoenix, AZ, with travel requirements ranging from 40% to 60% of the time to support projects in various U.S. states.

Responsibilities

  • Embrace and promote the core values of Tanaq, which include purpose-driven environmental work, safety, an engaging culture, trust and respect, transparency, and agility.
  • Independently conduct geological and hydrogeological investigations with minimal supervision.
  • Lead a team of geologists, engineers, and field technicians in conducting field investigations, including well drilling and environmental assessments.
  • Oversee drilling subcontractors to ensure project standards are met.
  • Document soil samples and drill cuttings, preparing soil boring logs and well construction records.
  • Determine well-construction specifications based on geological findings.
  • Conduct aquifer testing, including slug tests and pumping tests, and analyze data to assess aquifer characteristics.
  • Prepare specifications for drilling and subsurface investigation subcontractors.
  • Facilitate the procurement process for drilling and subsurface investigation subcontractors.
  • Lead sampling efforts for groundwater, soil, sediment, and surface water for laboratory analysis.
  • Compile reports detailing geological and hydrogeological findings, contamination extent, and contaminant behavior.
  • Assist in developing site remediation strategies, including removal actions and in-situ treatments.
  • Support remediation planning by preparing necessary planning and safety documentation.
  • Supervise site remediation activities, including groundwater injections and removal actions.
  • Review invoices from drilling subcontractors and assess their performance against approved plans.
Requirements

  • A minimum of 3 years of relevant experience; 5 years is preferred.
  • Preferred 3 years of field safety experience.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with a keen attention to detail.
  • Excellent organizational abilities and capacity to manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively to deliver high-quality results across various locations.
  • Professional demeanor with a proactive, solution-oriented mindset.
  • Valid driver's license and a clean driving record.
  • Willingness to work outdoors in diverse weather conditions.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsorship.
Education and Training

  • Bachelor's Degree in Geology or Hydrogeology from an accredited institution.
  • Professional Geologist (PG) or Registered Professional Geologist (RPG) certification or equivalent from at least one U.S. State; National Association of State Boards of Geology (ASBOG) registration is preferred.
Physical Requirements

  • Willingness and ability to travel 40-60% of the time for site visits, fieldwork, and client meetings.
  • Ability to sit for extended periods while working on a computer.
  • Physical capability to access field sites and traverse uneven terrain.
  • Mobility to walk, climb stairs, bend, squat, and kneel for inspections across project sites.
  • Ability to lift and carry moderate weights up to 25 lbs (e.g., safety equipment, tools) and maintain stamina for prolonged site inspections.
  • Clear vision (correctable to 20/20) to identify hazards and read safety documents; good hearing to detect alarms and communicate effectively on-site.
