Position Summary

We are currently seeking a qualified Environmental Research Specialist to assist in remedial, geological, and hydrogeological investigations under the guidance of a Project Manager. This role involves collaboration with geologists, engineers, and field technicians during field investigations, which include well drilling, environmental assessments, and remediation projects across various locations.

The position necessitates a solid understanding of environmental remediation principles and the capability to oversee subcontractors to ensure compliance with environmental and contractual standards. Responsibilities also include the collection of environmental samples such as soil, groundwater, surface water, and sediments at designated project sites.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as Field Team Leader during field investigations, overseeing the sampling of groundwater, soil, sediment, and surface water for laboratory analysis.
  • Document field activities and sampling events meticulously.
  • Assist in the preparation of lithologic logs, potentiometric surface maps, GIS maps, and tables summarizing field investigation results.
  • Draft comprehensive reports detailing geological and hydrogeological findings, contamination extent, and the behavior of site contaminants.
  • Contribute to the development of site remediation strategies, including removal actions and in-situ treatments.
  • Help prepare specifications for subcontractors and facilitate competitive procurement for remediation, drilling, and subsurface investigation services.
  • Supervise contractors executing site remediation activities, including groundwater injections and removal actions.
  • Support remediation planning, including the creation of planning and safety documentation.
  • Review subcontractor invoices and assess performance against approved plans.
  • Travel (40%-60%) to various U.S. locations to support environmental investigations or cleanup initiatives.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of 2 years of relevant experience.

Work Environment

This role is hybrid remote, requiring approximately 40%-60% travel to various job sites across the U.S. Tanaq Environmental, LLC, headquartered in Anchorage, AK, and with a Program Management Office in Denver, CO, supports major project operations nationwide.

Educational Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in environmental science (geology, chemistry, biology, ecology, natural resources) or engineering (civil, environmental, chemical) from an accredited institution.
  • 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER training with a current annual 8-hour update is advantageous; training may be provided for qualified candidates as necessary.

Physical Requirements

  • Willingness and ability to travel 40%-60% of the time for fieldwork and client meetings.
  • Ability to perform physical tasks such as walking, climbing stairs, bending, and kneeling at project sites.
  • Strength to lift and carry moderate weights up to 25 lbs.
  • Clear vision and hearing to identify hazards and communicate effectively on-site.
  • Comfortable working in various weather conditions and wearing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

Compensation and Benefits
