Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Part Time Mechanical Inspector to join our team in Shelby Township, Michigan. As a Mechanical Inspector, you will be responsible for performing inspections and reviewing plans to ensure compliance with applicable construction codes, ordinances, and regulations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Inspect buildings, structures, equipment, and property to enforce compliance with codes, ordinances, and regulations.
  • Review plans and specifications of buildings, structures, equipment, and sites to ensure compliance with codes, ordinances, and regulations.
  • Inform, assist, and advise architects, engineers, developers, contractors, property owners, and the general public regarding code, ordinance, and regulatory compliance.
  • Investigate and resolve complaints concerning code, ordinance, and regulatory matters.
  • Represent the Building Department before Township Boards and Commissions, State and other public agencies, courts of competent jurisdiction, and other legal authorities with regards to enforcement activities.
  • Prepare and maintain departmental records and reports utilizing departmental computer software.
  • Generate correspondence, violations, court citations, and other related documentation as required.
  • Operate office technology, such as photocopies and scanners, facsimile machines, telephone and voice mail systems, and computers.
  • Perform duties in compliance with occupational safety and health standards.
  • Assist other staff as needed.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent with five (5) years directly related experience OR an associate degree in a related field with two (2) years of directly related experience.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and driving record without limitation, State of Michigan registration as an Inspector and Plan Reviewer in the mechanical discipline, or have the ability and qualifications to obtain provisional registrations within ninety (90) days of employment.
  • Certification as an Inspector and Plan Reviewer from the International Code Council (ICC) in the applicable discipline(s) is preferred.
Working Conditions

This is a part-time position with a non-exempt FLSA status. The successful candidate will be required to work in an office environment, outdoors, and in various locations, including homes and businesses. The position requires good vision and hearing, as well as standard physical mobility.
