The City of Memphis is seeking a highly skilled Code Enforcement Inspector to join our team in the Public Works Division. Key Responsibilities- Conduct inspections of residential structures, grounds, and abandoned vehicles to ensure compliance with codes and regulations
- Investigate complaints on code violations and re-inspect properties for compliance
- Prepare reports and issue violation orders/notices to responsible parties
- Perform research to determine property ownership and provide information to the public
- Testify in court hearings and provide expert testimony
- Interpret code requirements and recommend compliance procedures
- High school graduate and two years' experience working with building construction, codes inspection, or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Certification by the International Code Council (ICC) as a Property Maintenance and Housing Inspector within 12 months of employment
- Valid driver's license
- College degree or coursework credit strongly preferred
The majority of work is performed throughout the City within an assigned geographical zone. Work involves contact with the public at times under stressful conditions. May be scheduled to work various shifts. May be exposed to animals, rodents, insects, and deteriorating structures when conducting inspections. May be exposed to various weather conditions, fumes, odors, dust, and noise.
