Job Summary

We are seeking a part-time hockey referee to join our team at the Ford Ice Center. As a referee, you will be responsible for officiating hockey games and ensuring that the game is played fairly and safely.

Key Responsibilities
  • Officiate hockey games and maintain a high level of knowledge of USA Hockey rules and regulations.
  • Stop play to signal participants or other officials to make them aware of infractions or to regulate play.
  • Impose penalties or infractions when necessary.
  • Inspect sporting equipment and examine participants to ensure compliance with event and safety regulations.
  • Keep track of game times and elapsed time during game segments.
  • Resolve claims of rule infractions or complaints by participants and assess any necessary penalties.
  • Report to regulating organizations regarding sporting activities, complaints made, and actions taken.
  • Confer with other sporting officials, coaches, players, and facility managers to provide information and coordinate activities.
Requirements
  • Must be 16 years old.
  • Must have a Level 1 USA Hockey officiating certification at a minimum.
  • Knowledge of the hockey community in the Middle Tennessee area.
  • Skating experience required.
  • Must be detailed oriented and able to focus on multiple tasks at once.
  • Must have strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Possess a calm and professional manner while interacting with coaches, players, and fans.
  • Must have a skating ability above or equal to that of the level of game they are officiating.
Physical Demands
  • Frequent lifting, bending, walking, and handling of heavy equipment up to 50 lbs.
  • Working under pressure.
  • Ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Working on an ice surface.
  • Ability to ice skate.
  • Exposure to bright lights, extreme temperatures, and loud noise.
  • Ability to stand in an upright position for continuous periods of time.
