We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Para-Educator Bilingual to join our team at the Fremont Union High School District. As a key member of our instructional support staff, you will play a vital role in ensuring the academic success of our students.

Job Summary

Under the direction of an assigned supervisor, the Para-Educator Bilingual will provide instructional, behavioral, and clerical support to teachers in classroom settings where bilingual skills are required. This includes assisting individuals or small groups of students to enhance learning, preparing instructional materials, and maintaining a positive and inclusive learning environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist teachers with presentation of learning materials and instructional exercises, translating to a second language as necessary.
  • Conduct lessons and other classroom activities, such as projects, small group exercises, and independent study.
  • Prepare for and assist with classroom projects and special assignments.
  • Organize materials and supplies to facilitate use by students, assist students requiring help, offer positive feedback and alternatives, and clean up work areas following projects.
  • Work with individuals or small groups of English learners, listening to and reinforcing instructions given by teachers in reading, spelling, math, and other subjects.
  • Assist in maintaining order among students in the classroom and on school grounds, supervising students in the classroom, on school grounds, and in gathering areas, on field trips, and at special events.
  • Monitor and oversee behavior of students according to approved procedures.
  • Report student academic and behavior progress and performance to teachers, documenting student progress by correcting assignments, administering and scoring criterion-referenced tests, recording and charting test scores and curriculum-based measurements in reading.
  • Assist with preparation and translation of instructional and testing materials, suggesting and preparing materials that offer alternative approaches to facilitate student learning.
  • Confer with teachers concerning student needs, alerting them to any special problems or information concerning students, and assisting teachers, resource staff, and parents to develop and evaluate individual and group educational goals and objectives.
  • Assist and guide students by appropriate role modeling, emotional support, patience, and a friendly, engaging attitude.
  • Prepare display and bulletin board materials for beautification and decoration of the classroom environment, assisting in maintaining a neat, orderly, and attractive learning environment that supports learning.
  • Set up and operate audiovisual equipment, computers, and other equipment that serves to assist and enhance instructional programs.
  • Assure safety of students following health and safety rules.
  • Participate in meetings and in-service training programs as assigned.
Requirements

The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of child development and guidance principles, as well as basic knowledge of teaching and instruction methods. They will also have working knowledge of basic subjects taught in the District schools, including arithmetic, grammar, spelling, language, and reading. Additionally, they will require advanced knowledge of and skill at communicating in a second language, sufficient to interpret high school subject matter.

The successful candidate will be able to work productively and cooperatively with teachers, students, and parents in formal and informal settings, exercising patience when conveying information and demonstrating sensitivity to the special needs of students. They will also be able to assist teaching staff with implementation of instructional goals and activities, interact with teachers, parents, and specialists to carry out assigned duties, and oversee students, administer assignments and tests, and perform general clerical tasks.
