Job Summary

The Food Service Assistant will be responsible for ensuring that food, supplies, and equipment are available as needed and stored properly when not in use. This role will assist in the preparation of food for meals and provide kitchen clean-up to facilitate sanitizing of all food service areas.

Key Responsibilities

  • Transfer food, supplies, and equipment between storage areas and kitchen and/or cafeteria.
  • Wash, peel, and core fruit and vegetables as necessary.
  • Set up and take down tables and chairs.
  • Scrape, wash, and store dishes, pots, pans, and utensils.
  • Clear, clean, and sanitize kitchen, cafeteria area, and food storage areas.
  • Clean refrigerators, stoves, ovens, and other kitchen equipment.
  • Sweep, mop, wax, and strip wax from floors.
  • Clean and store trash containers in appropriate areas.
  • Degrease and sanitize vent screens and filters.
  • Provide superior customer service at all times.
  • Produce quality work/assignments in a thorough, timely, and accurate manner.
  • Maintain appropriate personal attendance, accountability, and work productivity standards.
  • Plan, prioritize, and organize assignments to meet established goals and deadlines.
  • Understand and apply job knowledge to effectively complete all required job responsibilities.
  • Mentor, monitor, and model the Career Success Standards as required by the PRH.
  • Provide high-quality supervision and management for the student population.
  • Provide quality services for students and ensure that quality is maintained and student needs are met.
  • Exchange ideas and information, both orally and in writing, in a clear and concise manner.
  • Contribute meaningfully to group efforts by offering relevant ideas and knowledge.
  • Effectively articulate thoughts and ideas.
  • Identify problems, analyze causes, and evaluate appropriate solutions.
  • Work in partnership with staff from all departments to ensure effective supervision and services are provided to students.
  • Accept direction and supervision from the Center Director/Center Duty Officer/Shift Manager.

Qualifications and Experience

A high school diploma or equivalent is required. Advanced degrees are preferred. Experience in a food services operation is desired. Ability to obtain local Food Handling/Health Certification is required.

Physical Requirements

The physical requirements of this role include sitting, standing, climbing, walking, lifting, pulling, and/or pushing, carrying, reaching, stooping, and crouching. The ability to lift 40 pounds and/or assess the lift load in order to ask for necessary assistance is also required.
