Minimum Qualifications:
A bachelor's degree in education from an accredited institution.
A valid Alaska type C certificate with an endorsement for educational diagnostician or a related field.

Required Evidence of Expertise:
A degree in the relevant content area;
A minor in the relevant content area;
Passing scores on Praxis Subject Assessments (formerly Praxis II) in the relevant content area;
An endorsement in the relevant content area.
A minimum of three years of experience in the educational sector.
Proven experience working with special education students.

Experience collaborating to support the Individual Education Plan (IEP) requirements of special education students in a public school environment.


Preferred Qualifications:
A master's degree in education from an accredited institution.

Desirable Skills and Experience:
Strong organizational skills, with an interest in statistical and numerical data.
Ability to engage effectively with diverse groups, including parents, administrators, educators, and students of varying ages.
Proficiency in utilizing technology for task management, including record keeping and assessment tracking.
Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to resolve conflicts.
Capability to manage multiple tasks concurrently.
Ability to clearly articulate test results, resources, and educational plans.

Key Responsibilities:
Collaborates with a team to formulate evaluation strategies for students.

Selects and administers both formal and informal assessments to ascertain student eligibility for special education services in accordance with federal, state, and district guidelines.

Gathers and organizes pertinent information and assessment data from parents/guardians, the student information system, progress monitoring data, classroom teachers, principals, support staff, and external resources.

Conducts observations and personal interviews as necessary.

Participates in initial and reevaluation meetings to assist in interpreting assessment data, determining appropriate placements, and developing Individual Education Plans (IEP) for students following district protocols.

Collaborates with other assessment professionals, such as speech-language pathologists, occupational and physical therapists, school psychologists, and counselors to establish eligibility for special education services.

Provides insights to the IEP committee regarding students' academic strengths and weaknesses based on psycho-educational assessments.
Interprets psycho-educational testing results in relation to students' educational placements and programming for parents, educators, administrators, and students.

Monitors students' educational progress concerning IEP goals and objectives, recommending necessary modifications and accommodations to curricular content and instruction.

Offers ongoing consultative services to schools, communities, and parents regarding students' educational needs.
Engages as a partner with parents, families, and the community.
Maintains regular communication with parents through notes, phone calls, conferences, etc.

Physical and Mental Demands:
The physical demands of this role require frequent standing, walking, sitting, speaking, and hearing. Specific visual capabilities are also necessary.

The employee is regularly required to reach with hands and arms and occasionally lift items weighing less than 40 lbs.

Additionally, the employee must be capable of understanding vague and implicit instructions, recalling facts and details, managing conflict, and making effective decisions under pressure.

The employee must effectively manage the stress associated with working with students, parents, and other staff representing diverse cultures, personalities, and work styles in a dynamic environment.


Work Environment:

Work is conducted in a professional setting with a diverse range of individuals possessing varying functions, personalities, and abilities, including collaboration with diverse groups in various settings.

While performing the duties of this role, the employee may be regularly exposed to a video display. The employee may also encounter outdoor weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is typically moderate.
