Location: MENTAL HEALTH AND STUDENT SUPPORTS

Minimum Requirements:

  • A bachelor's degree in education from an accredited institution.
  • A valid Alaska type C certificate with an endorsement for educational diagnostician or a related field.
  • Demonstrated content knowledge through:
    • A degree or minor in the relevant content area.
    • Passing scores on Praxis Subject Assessments in the relevant content area.
    • An endorsement in the relevant content area.
  • A minimum of three years of experience in the educational sector.
  • Experience working with special education students.
  • Collaboration experience in supporting Individual Education Plans (IEPs) for special education students in a public school environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A master's degree in education from an accredited institution.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills with an interest in statistical and numerical data.
  • Ability to engage effectively with diverse groups, including parents, administrators, teachers, and students.
  • Proficiency in utilizing technology for record-keeping and assessment management.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with conflict resolution abilities.
  • Capability to manage multiple tasks concurrently.
  • Ability to clearly articulate test results, resources, and educational plans.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Collaborate with a team to formulate evaluation plans for students.
  • Select and administer both formal and informal assessments to ascertain student eligibility for special education services in accordance with federal, state, and district regulations.
  • Gather and organize pertinent information and assessment data from various stakeholders, including parents, teachers, and support staff.
  • Conduct observations and interviews as necessary.
  • Participate in initial and reevaluation meetings to aid in the interpretation of assessment data and the development of IEPs.
  • Work alongside other assessment professionals to determine eligibility for special education services.
  • Provide insights to the IEP committee regarding students' academic strengths and weaknesses based on psycho-educational assessments.
  • Interpret psycho-educational testing results for parents, teachers, and administrators.
  • Monitor students' educational progress concerning IEP goals, recommending modifications as needed.
  • Offer ongoing consultative services to schools, communities, and parents regarding students' educational needs.
  • Foster partnerships with parents, families, and the community.
  • Maintain regular communication with parents through various means.

Physical/Mental Demands: This role requires frequent standing, walking, sitting, speaking, and hearing. Specific visual abilities are necessary. The employee must manage stress effectively while working with diverse individuals in a dynamic environment.

Work Environment: The position is situated in a professional setting with a variety of individuals with differing functions and abilities. Regular exposure to a video display is expected, along with potential outdoor conditions.
