Responsibilities
The selected candidates will engage in a range of duties focused on safeguarding resources and ensuring visitor safety. This includes, but is not limited to: enforcing federal and state regulations, conducting vehicle and foot patrols, managing front country and backcountry areas, responding to emergencies, providing emergency medical assistance, conducting search and rescue operations, and overseeing visitor engagement and education. Additional responsibilities may involve patrols on horseback and bicycle.
You will establish operational objectives and guarantee that all personnel receive necessary training promptly; assess operational needs and provide recommendations to your supervisor regarding programming, budgeting, training, administration, and operational evaluations; and organize patrols to enhance visitor interactions, particularly in areas of concern. You will oversee and direct complex law enforcement, emergency medical, and search and rescue operations, as well as deliver emergency medical services to park visitors and local residents. Furthermore, you will be involved in all facets of employee management, including performance evaluations, recognition programs, and counseling.

U.S. Citizenship is mandatory. Appointment is contingent upon a background investigation and favorable adjudication. Compliance with the Selective Service Registration Act is required for males. Subject to pre-employment physical and drug testing. A Type II or higher Law Enforcement Commission is required. Participation in the Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program is mandatory. Selected individuals will be required to carry a firearm while on duty and maintain proficiency with it. Candidates must not have any domestic violence convictions. Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a background security investigation and favorable adjudication. Failure to meet these requirements may result in termination. A negative drug test result is required prior to appointment, and this position is subject to random drug testing. Prior to appointment, candidates must be deemed physically fit by an authorized government physician to perform demanding physical tasks and pass a medical examination, which includes assessments of vision, hearing, cardiovascular health, and mobility of extremities. Periodic medical evaluations will be required throughout employment. Candidates must demonstrate physical fitness through the Physical Efficiency Battery (PEB), which includes agility, strength, endurance, flexibility, and body composition assessments.Qualifications
Continued Requirements: A valid driver's license is necessary as this position requires operation of a government or private vehicle. Submission of a Motor Vehicle Operator's License and Driving Record is required. Candidates must also provide certified driving records from all states where they have held valid licenses. Compliance with National Park Service uniform standards is required, and a uniform allowance will be provided. Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime, and shift work may be necessary. New federal employees or supervisors must complete a one-year probationary period. Overnight travel may be required occasionally. Training and maintenance of a government charge card with travel and/or purchase authority may be necessary. Applicants must be at least 21 years old. Selective Factors: Applicants must meet ALL of the following to qualify: Must currently possess, previously held (within the past three years), or be able to obtain a valid Type II or higher National Park Service (NPS) Law Enforcement Commission, or equivalent. Must currently possess or be able to obtain Emergency Responder Certification or higher. - AND -
Applicants must possess at least one of the following minimum qualifications:
EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience includes roles such as Park Guide, law enforcement, or related fields.

EDUCATION: Completion of at least one full academic year of graduate education in relevant fields such as natural resource management, law enforcement, or related disciplines.

COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: Combinations of education and specialized experience may be used to meet total experience requirements.
Volunteer Experience : Paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work, will be credited towards qualifications.
Additional Information -
This is a temporary position not to exceed 1 year and can be extended up to 5 years.
This temporary position can be made permanent without further competition.
Employment may be terminated at any time due to fluctuations in funding levels, project needs, employee performance, or other considerations.
A selectee receiving a first appointment to the Federal Government is entitled only to the lowest step of the grade for which selected.
