Position Overview: The State of Florida is seeking a dedicated individual for the role of Museum Education Program Coordinator. This position plays a vital role in enhancing the educational outreach and operational efficiency of our museum.

Minimum Qualifications: Candidates must possess a minimum of six (6) months of paid or volunteer experience in a museum, library, non-profit organization, or a related field. A college degree in humanities, public history, museum studies, arts, public administration, business, marketing, or a related discipline is required, or alternatively, four (4) years of direct experience in one or more of these fields.

Work Schedule: The role requires availability from Tuesday to Saturday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with occasional after-hours commitments as necessary.

Preferred Experience: Ideal candidates will have:

  • Experience in museum operations.
  • Office management and administrative experience.
  • Background in marketing, public relations, and program execution.
  • Experience in financial management, including budget creation and oversight, purchasing, and accounting software.
  • Skills in program evaluation and reporting.
  • Experience in website development and management.

Key Responsibilities: The Museum Education Program Coordinator will collaborate with the executive director to:

  • Maintain comprehensive records for DOS and CSO budgets, purchases, payments, and approval requests.
  • Serve as the primary contact for visiting groups and manage the museum's membership program, including member communications and payment tracking.
  • Support daily museum operations, including site opening and closing procedures, conducting guided tours, and contributing to educational programs and special events.
  • Perform additional duties as required.

  • The ability to engage with challenging historical topics, including slavery and civil rights.
  • Willingness to work in varied environments and conditions.
  • Physical capability to perform light housekeeping tasks and lift items up to 20 lbs.
  • Proficiency in standard office software.

Background Check: A Level 2 criminal background check is a prerequisite for employment. Selected candidates will be required to submit fingerprints for this process.
