Description

St. Croix Health is seeking a Clinical Operations Supervisor to lead our Medical/Surgical department.

Position Overview

The Clinical Operations Supervisor is responsible for guiding the Medical/Surgical team, ensuring effective management of nursing and technical staff while fostering a patient-centered approach to care delivery. This role is pivotal in overseeing daily unit operations to enhance patient safety, clinical outcomes, and overall satisfaction while streamlining interdepartmental workflows. The supervisor will also manage employee relations, recruitment, onboarding, and performance evaluations, ensuring adherence to all regulatory standards and financial oversight.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Operational Leadership

  • Oversee daily operations and resources of the Medical/Surgical unit to guarantee safe and effective patient care and compliance with regulations.
  • Contribute to policy development and implementation, ensuring alignment with industry standards and routine compliance evaluations.
  • Ensure accurate documentation in accordance with electronic medical record (EMR) requirements and relevant compliance obligations.
  • Deliver skilled nursing care as per the Nurse Practice Act.
  • Monitor patient care effectiveness and promote continuous quality improvement initiatives.
  • Establish feedback mechanisms to assess departmental operations.
2. Staff Development and Management
  • Direct and guide the work of team members.
  • Manage departmental schedules, ensuring adequate staffing based on patient needs.
  • Assess staff competencies regularly and ensure appropriate training is provided.
  • Mentor and coach staff to enhance their professional development.
  • Oversee recruitment processes, from generating requisitions to onboarding new hires.
  • Evaluate staff performance and address any performance-related issues.
3. Quality Improvement and Performance
  • Collect and analyze data to assess program effectiveness and quality initiatives.
  • Support staff in advanced procedures and concepts.
  • Ensure accuracy in staff duties and EMR documentation.
  • Identify and implement process improvements across departments.
  • Enhance business processes to improve quality and efficiency.
4. Strategic Planning
  • Assist in developing and executing plans to achieve organizational goals.
5. Clinical Expertise
  • Uphold nursing care standards and implement hospital policies.
  • Act as a subject matter expert on infection prevention and safety protocols.
  • Demonstrate clinical proficiency in nursing practices.
6. Budget Management
  • Review and manage supply and equipment requests.
  • Monitor supply usage and collaborate with vendors on pricing.
  • Promote cost containment and identify cost-reduction strategies.
  • Assist in developing and monitoring departmental budgets.
7. Additional Responsibilities
  • Implement nursing practice standards and ensure readiness for regulatory surveys.
  • Lead various departmental projects and initiatives as required.

Qualifications

Education & Licensure:
  • Associate's degree required; Bachelor's degree in nursing preferred.
  • Current Registered Nurse license required.
  • BLS and ACLS certifications required upon hire.
Experience:
  • Minimum of five years in medical/surgical or emergency care settings.
  • Previous experience as a Med/Surg RN preferred.
  • At least three years of management experience preferred.
Skills & Abilities:
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient in computer applications.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Professional demeanor with the ability to collaborate effectively.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
  • Knowledge of legal medical record requirements.
  • Understanding of Critical Access Hospital regulations.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
  • Oversee Medical/Surgical staff, including scheduling and performance management.
Physical Requirements:
  • Prolonged periods of sitting and working on a computer.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
